Thankfully I now have my 720 working. TomTom have been sending out £8 gift vouchers so I have that to spend in their shop. I was considering buying the quarterly map updates as this would make it about £28.
Firstly is it worth updating the maps so regularly? Do they have a lot of changes that are not covered by the map share? Secondly, presumably this would mean downloading the 2Gb of maps every 3 months, and having to mess about with deleting files and folders to do the install?
Any recommendations or advice? |

I think it has been mentioned here that the £8 vouchers can't be used for map update subscriptions. Can't find the thread at the moment, though. _________________ Ric - TomTom 520 DEAD - Passed to the great traffic jam in the sky. Now using Maps & Waze on Samsung Galaxy S4 + CamerAlert of course! |

I'm afraid the voucher can't be used for map updates. At the bottom of the email, so pale as to be almost unreadable, it says: "Your voucher code cannot be redeemed against Map Update Services and LIVE Services rolling subscription. " _________________ Anita

If you compare the map update service (£36 did you make it?) with the price of a single new map, you'll probably find it's cheaper to buy four than one!!
Whether it's worth updating every three months is your own judgement, but why not, if it's cheaper than one map and at the end of 12 months you've got the latest available map compared with just having today's map?
The space business is somewhat variable in affecting users - some suffer, others don't. The best bet anyway is to get a decent sized SDHC card and run that in the 720 and when it comes to updating maps, it'll be a breeze. I use a PEAK 8GB Class 6 (speed) card and it works just fine. It was about £16 ages ago and I guess it'll be cheaper now, simply because bigger capacity ones are widely available now.
The £8 voucher might just about cover the delivery charge on something bought from TT (compared with probably free delivery from other sources). _________________ Dennis
