My 720 is now taking 15 to 20 mins to lock on to the satelites. Usually worse after being left unused for a day or so but it can be just as bad after only one day. Does not make any noticable difference if moving or stationary. It is better after updating the quickfix but I don't want to connect to a computer every day ! Once locked on it relocks very quickly after short switch off such as an hour or so.
Using 8.351 with 710 maps. I recall it being much quicker with the previous software version but I think this version has better volume control of lineout. I tried reloading the software but it made no difference.
Any solution ideas gratefully listened to.

Try deleting all the GPSQuickfix data that's been downloaded.

To do this, connect the Go to your PC, run Windows Explorer (not Home) and delete the entire contents of the folder called "ephem" in the Go's internal memory (or on the SD card if you use one).

Hi ambaxador
I am surprised to read about your ‘satellite fix’ problem. I too have a 720 and I have often been amazed at how quick it locks on to the satellites. On many occasions when I have been trying to create an itinerary (whilst indoors) it has insisted on getting a fix despite all my attempts to stop it doing so.
I know how you must feel because I remember having Tomtom running on a PDA and that was a real pain at getting a fix. I often got to destination before it managed to do so. I hope that someone is able to solve your problem.
By the way, I do not use the quickfix.

Thanks for the replies. After switching on this morning there were only 3 grey sats showing after 9 mins so I delted the ephim stuff as advised. Result - lock on before I even noticed, probably les than a second.
I will try again after leaving off for a few days.
I can see why a corrupt quickfix file would upset the lockon time but I have been having this problem for a number of months and been through a range of different quickfix files. I though it was quicker locking on after downloading a quickfix file. Perhap TomTom design their quickfix files so that once started on them you have to keep logging into home to keep the performance up and they can bombard you with adverts or collect data Twisted Evil

You don't need to use GPSQuickFix at all. If you delete the files in the ephem folder it will automatically generate 2 out of the 3 files. It WILL take a while to get a satellite lock the first time. The 3rd file isn't really needed. The unit should (and does) work fine.

However GPSQuickFix or no GPSQuickFix - i still can't sort my wandering GPS out...
