Sorry that this is off-topic a bit, but I can't seem to find a section on the forum about Google Maps Navigation on Android? Can anyone help?

It is true. There isn't one. I for one would be interested in discussing when it's going to get to the UK and France; and what tips anyone might have for hacking the existing code to enable it over here.
I'm on a v2.2 android load on a Nexus ONE. |

Andy
It is working here in UK now; don't know about France.
I am using an HTC Desire with Android 2.1 and Google Maps 4.3.0.
Press MENU | Directions, enter start and end points and the NAVIGATE.
Allegedly ( not proven myself) if the route is planned while a Wifi signal is available say at home then the route and maps are downloaded and cached, then when the route is driven, as long as you dont go 'off piste' it will not need to download further maps. Rerouting will, of course, require a download of addditional maps whilst driving using 3G probably - watch the data costs.
I think it is very good and although the voice is automated it is acceptable - to me. It announces road names and gives you a full description of the sign - sometimes too much information.

Aah yes... I hadn't spotted that they'd turned it on in the UK. Haven't been back for a few months. Still not working elsewhere in Europe though.
I have just downloaded the Brut version from XDA. Seems to install ok, although I had to kick Google Earth off my device to make space ;-(
