I'm thinking of getting the tomtom for my ipaq, but don't know much about the system, and have a few Q's.
1) What are the size of the maps.
2) Are they stored on a SD card if so does the type of card make a difference.
3) Do you create the maps you want then put them onto a SD card.
4) Is it possible to have the whole of the UK.
5) Is the bluetooth version any good.
Many thanks for any help.

1. They vary: The whole of the UK is just over 100MB. But you can select smaller chunks.
2. They can be stored in main memory, SD or CF. Obviously you need enough free for the map to fit (so main memory isn't really an option). I keep the GB and Iberian (120MB) maps and the Major Roads of Europe (80MB) on a 1GB CF card
3. You pick the maps and they get copied to your card.
4. See 1
5. Not tried the TT BT GPS - but I've got two other makes and they're great. Having BT is wonderful with a GPS receiver. |

1. If my memory serves me correct, you can get the whole of the UK on a 128MB card.
2. You can store the maps on SD or CF.
3. Not quite sure what you mean by create maps.... unless you are trying to do your own. Tomtom comes with maps and you just install them to
the memory card
4. Yes
5. If I was in your position, I would not buy the TT Bluetooth GPS to go with the 2210. My thread entitled (I think) "TT BT GPS and Nav USA comments" may give you an insight why. |

You can put the maps on any storage that's large enough, though Sandisk SD cards can be problematic in pretty much any device and are best avoided. Unfortunately many brands rebadge Sandisk.
Unlike with some systems, you can't compile maps out of the available data with TomTom Navigator - you have to use the complete maps or segments provided. The entire Great_Britain map for Navigator 3 takes 105MB - which will fit in a 128MB card, though it would be more sensible in many cases to purchase at least a 256MB card. A 128MB card is only just enough for the map and Niels' postcode application, leaving you no room for Pocket PC backups (if you use a system such as Sprite Backup) and very little room for POI files.
Fortunately good 256MB SD cards are not expensive now; the prices of all SD cards have fallen steadily apart from 512MB. 1GB SD is available from Sandisk now, but being Sandisk, I won't touch it.
