Tom Tom XL Europe 31 Special Edition - can I speed it up?

I bought an XL Europe 31 Special Edition from Comet, the one with Text to Speech, as an upgrade over my TT1 v2.

I have a couple of issues with it that others may know how to fix or improve.

1. It is very slow in calculating the route.

2. It has a tendency to freeze when turning on.

3. It is very slow on the route, it tends to be behind where you are on the road quite badly. For example it will warn you to turn left in to a road about 800 yards away, then will announce turn left after you have turned left or driven past the road and missed your turning.

4. The flow of the map is very jerky.

Is there anyway to improve these features or have they squeezed to much into the XL and the processor can't cope. Should I delete some files?

do you have a lot of pois set to show on the map? That tends to really slow down screen refresh. No more than 4 or 5 max should be implemented.

took off most of the poi's and the direction and maps have certainly speeded up. No more missed turns this weekend.
