|
|
I want to start a competition without a prize. The rules are you have to post your TT model, ensure it is fully charged, and then see how long it lasts without doing anything but while in stand-by mode (so it's on, showing a route but not actually directing you anywhere...). That timing should be up to the point the screens turns off, after the low battery warning (normally green) flashes up...
I'm going to kick-off...
TT720
Fully charged over night. Turn it on, running on battery.
Time to self shut-off - 7 mins 32 secs. But I reckon it's been quicker before so I'm going to try again.
Roll on with your numbers.... |

But why?
If you've got a well-used 720, it's pretty likely the battery will be nearing the end of it's life, and by your timings that's definitely the case.
Just get the knackered battery replaced, if you want.
Mine's the same but I haven't bothered as it is always used on the charging cable. |

Probably a bit of light humour to keep us TTers ticking over until the next NavCore release. It does seem to be a bit quieter don't you think?. Have TT cleared their backlog of problems? When I logged in one day last week I noticed that there were more questions from Garmin users than TT !!!
For the record my TT GO730 , 4 months old provides about 2 hours of life on battery power, so i guess I've lost! _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

My two and a half year old GO510 still gives over four hours use from one charge. It's nice to be able to use it without a wire dangling across the dashboard.
Whilst I appreciate that it would be good to have a slim device that will fit in a pocket this does seem to be at the expense of battery life. I will stick with the chunky device running off it's internal battery.
On a recent visit to America and Canada the tomtom car charger failed on the first day. I managed to get a six hour journey from one battery charge by setting it to switch off the screen between instructions. Admittedly the junctions over there tend to be further apart than ours. _________________ Paul |

I travelled recently by Eurostar & TGV, to France with the 910. Time, start to finish, was 6h 30m. The Unit was only off while crossing Paris on the Metro, say 35 mins. The sound was turned OFF and the Brightness set to 80%, and me doing 120mph down the M20!! _________________ Richard

I managed four days with the unit turned off. Fully charged after a long run, then turned off for four days. When I turned it back on to plan a route, it lasted about 2 seconds, low battery warning then off. Bought last October from Dixons Eurotunnel (730T) |

TT530 8351(9982/090518)
If you're not moving, the Tom Tom does an "auto shutdown"
It even gives a prompt! You have to answer to keep the thing turned on....
Great help when you're in a Jam on the M6........... |

If you're not moving? I've never seen that...
Only powers down when it loses external power - did you turn the ignition off?
If that's it, you can switch off the feature in the Battery Saving Preferences.
It also does power down after ten minutes or so when it's connected to the PC usb connection, to assist quicker charging with the reduced power available from the PC. |

Yes it will auto shut down while in the car if you are not moving or using the device although I think its 15 minutes to trigger the auto off. This feature was introduced with Navcore 8,3x as far as I can remember - Mike |

I travel to Cambridge and back quite a lot and as I know the route well I have the voice directions turned off (silent voice). The TT is there to remind me of speed cams and traffic issues.
When used like this the battery will last there and back, bit over 6 hrs. If I have the directions on, the battery only lasts a little over 4 hrs |

That's TWO new things I've learnt today!
Obviously, I've never left it alone for long enough in the car. If I get stuck in a traffic jam, I probably start playing with it! |

Unless the engine is off and handbrake on you could get done if a cop sees you - assuming the same rules as using a mobile phone apply.
Absolutely ridiculous I know, but it's worth knowing.
( I assume the 'it' you refer to is the sat-nav? ) |

It could be a case of letting the train take the strain!
Just waiting for comments about the that work at Virgin.
