How do I find an intersection?

I may be missing something really obvious here...

When driving the many highways and byways of this great land of ours you may often see that such and such road is blocked/congested/delayed after a particular road junction

eg. when travelling south on M5 you may see the overhead matrix signs show "A30, heavy congestion after A382" I use this example as the junction is about 20 miles away from the warning.

If you have a route planned that is taking you along the A30 how can you see if the delay is on your route or not.

Browse Map, Find, Address, Crossing... to use this you have to know the rough location of the roads intersection.

What if you are a stranger and don't know where the roads are?

How do you see if the warning affects you?

Unfortunately, that's a problem with the messages that the Highways Agency give out. Imagine you're driving without a SatNav, and are in a part of the country that you don't know so well. You see "Delay after A473" (No I don't know where this one is either!). It's utterly pointless unless you know the area well. "Delay after Junc.17" would be so much more use.

I don't think there's an easy way round it. You could try Navigate to ... Address and try entering the M5, but most of the crossings aren't defined well enough.

You could of course use TomTom Traffic in one of it's various guises, but that may or may not have information about the same delay.

That doesn't work for me, Anita??? After Crossing/intersection, mine requires a City and which city is A30/A382 or whatever? (A30 goes from Exeter to Lands End or something).

I see these matrix displays so often and they're really useless - "A5 delay after A473" or something. It really winds me up, because I don't know if I'm going onto the A5, or if I do, whether I'm supposed to be going beyond A473.

But even if it DOES say "delay after Junction 15 " or whatever, it is stll REALLY difficult to locate a junction number on the TomTom in order to try to route round it.

For motorways you could always download the poi which shows the entrances and exists and has the motorway junction numbers on them. Not ideal I'll grant you, but better than nothing
