iGO Amigo Ultra Skin 1.0.14
The Amigo Ultra Skin adds essential extra functions to iGO Amigo to improve route planning and navigation whilst still retaining the original simple and easy to use interface.
End of Support for Ultra Skin:
Unfortunately, due to a lack of time, I've had to close the website and will no longer be able to offer any support for this project.
Many thanks to all those who have provided feedback and advice.
Regards

Hi Linknet,
I use an HTC Touch HD. Do you plan to develop your skin with resolution 800x480 or at least 400x240 to extrapole ?
Thanks. |

I'm afraid not, it's just too much work.

Added Version 1.0.1
Fixed: After selecting the "Show" button to display the "Waiting for GPS information panel" the "Hide" button now actually hides the panel in all resolutions.

Hi Linknet. A colleague has just gone down the sat nav route (no pun intended) and purchased iGO Amigo, speaking on the phone he said it would be nice to have 'via's' and I pointed him to your download. He said it's very good but can't find a way of 'finding POI on route'. Not being able to 'play' with his device I don't know whether it's because it can't be done or he can't do it. Is there a way?
Thanks BC. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

After selecting a destination and pressing the "Go" button return to the "Destination Easy Find" menu (if you are using the Ultra Skin then tap and hold on the "Add Via" button to show the "Destination" button) and then you have the following options:
Destination ► Find Places ► Petrol Station (On My Route)
Destination ► Find Places ► Restaurant (On My Route)
Destination ► Find Places ► Other Places ► Along My Route
However, any of these options sets the POI as the final destination (as in the standard Amigo) and not as a via point. So when you reach the POI you need to reselect your original destination which will be shown on the "Destination Easy Find" menu as the default selection.
Edit:
Version 1.0.3 of the Ultra Skin adds the option to find addresses or search for places around the cursor or along the route and then add them as via points.

Thanks Linknet, I'll cut and paste your instructions and e-mail him.
(I think I'll stick with iGO8). _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

Nice skin, thanks.
I am interested in doing my own skins. I have already completely decoded the voice file format (see by blog post http://blog.world3.net/2009/06/igo-8amiga-voice-commands-csv-format/) and have managed to make a less irritating voice (only two warnings per turn now, not three). Now I am looking for info on skins, to save me decoding the skin format from scratch.
In particular, information on the speed camera warning system would be helpful. I notice you took that feature out of the Ultra skin for iGo 8, was there a reason for that? My goal is to have spoken warnings and on-screen display with different icons for each camera type and speed limit shown in MPH with main settings on metric.
Have you found any way to test the speed camera stuff in simulation mode? When I try it I don't get the warnings, only the spoken navigation.
Oh, and an automatic overview map would be nice too. I miss that from iGo 8. |

There's no guide, it's really just a matter of experimentation until you understand the FFUI interface scripts.

I removed them since I found it far easier to check the on screen display than listen to the warnings. Check out the code in version 5.0 of the Ultra Skin for an example.

Simulate a route with GPSGate, then you get all the warnings.

I always turn that off so I don't miss it at all.

Hmm, okay, well when I figure it out I'll do a blog post about it. It's a shame the community does not seem to be close enough to bother providing this information. Perhaps a wiki may be in order.

Fair enough. The on-screen warnings are okay, except that in Amigo you don't get different camera icons any more and it always displays the speed limit in metric if you have it set to metric. I only use metric for all distances (800 yards means nothing to me), except speed limits where I am forced to use the old system.

I downloaded that program a while ago but unfortunately the MyGuide 4200 I have does not have any way to connect to an RS232 port. AFAIK Amigo isn't out for Windows yet.
Still, it works okay with V8 for Windows.

I find it useful when going long distance. It gives a nice visual indication of where you are in relation to nearby towns and overall on your route.
The display in Amigo is a bit better than iGo 8. Less cluttered too. The lack of options is a real annoyance though. At least in 8 you have the simple/advanced modes for that, so why not in Amigo? |

There's a Windows Mobile and a Windows CE .NET version.

GPS Gate runs on the nav device. You can drive a test route whilst recording it in GPSGate, then replay it at your leisure on your device. The only slight prolem is that GPSGate has to be 'connected' to your built in GPS serial port then you have to 'connect' the nav software to one of the GPSGate virtual serial o/p ports. |

Added Version 1.0.2
- Added the option to search for places around the cursor or along the route and then add them as via points.
- Added additional bitmaps for the on screen buttons so that these now display correctly at night.
