Hi all!

I'm looking for a gps unit or logger that I can use (relatively simply, if possible) for geotagging photos, but also one that I can use for a little bit of general use, finding my location in an emergency, that sort of thing. I do like cycling and rowing, so they both had advantages/disadvantages there, but I mostly like touristy traveling and hiking/backpacking.

I've been looking at these two especially: Genie BGT-31 and Qstarz Explore BT-Q2000. Both are (relatively) cheap, do internal logging, and have good reviews both on the forums here and in general, which are the most important things for me. They also have screens, which is important. I also like that they both have bluetooth, so I could connect them to my computer or my phone for more advanced usage.

I'm hoping for 3 kinds of advice then: if anyone has experience with both and has a preference, if anyone has experience with one and has a good/bad point that they wouldn't mind adding to the knowledgebase, or if anyone thinks their use of gps sounds like mine and has a better solution.

I've honestly only used a gps unit twice, and that was nearly a decade ago as support for old-fashioned map and compass trekking, so I'm basically clueless here.

Thanks!

Not used either but I do own and use the QStarz 1000BT. It's a very good unit and comes with s/w that helps with the geo-tagging of photos. Excellent battery life and sensitivity. The battery is a standard Nokia battery so a spare is relatively inexpensive.

That's actually really cool to know! Thanks! I've pretty much decided I'm going with the q2000.

For geo tagging photos, The Navman N-series or S90i would be good. Just use the built in camera and the photos is already tagged
