Hi

complete newbie to the site - just joined.

have been reading lots and getting up to speed with my TT one. I have downloaded the PGPS speed cameras - this works a treat Very Happy

Some help and advice please. I notice that in some areas the unit shows my speed and sometimes speed/speed limit. If I transgress it will flash red. Embarassed

Is there any way the TT one can be made to alert by audiable, like I have with the speed cameras?

I am also aware that the limit on the map is different to the actual signs oon teh road - can I edit the map?

TIA

Phil

Hi and Welcome!

The Speed limit shown is buried in the map data and hasn't been added for many roads yet (It's often wrong too... so don't depend on it too much!!)

You can get an alert for it when it turns red by going to:
Change preferences / Safety Preferences / and tick the box for "Warn when going faster then allowed". Once You've ticked the box it sends you to a page where you can choose he sound effect it uses for the Warning.

You can ADD your own sounds to this list if you wish. Ask for details...

As for corrdcting and adding the speed limit to roads where it is wrong or missing. you do that with "MapShare corrections. Go to "Map Corrections" in the main menu and you should find "Correct Road Speed".
Unfortunately, there is a bug in the system currently where the speed limit gets rounded up or down wrongly (because it is saved internally in km/h) so when you correct a road to sy 30 MPH, it might get shown as 29 or 31....

Do you have a menu item in the 'Change preferences' menu for "Show ALL menu items"?
Sometimes TomTom's come with it switched off and you get a "simplified" menu. Tap that icon and you may get lots more menu pages.

Hopefully that's all that is wrong.

If that doesn't fix it and this needs to get more technical, can you tell us exactly which model you have, and also which maps?
To find the map, tap the signal strength bars on screen, then tap the little box where it says "Version" on the next screen. The NEXT screen should be a whole page of text, showing the software application version in full and the map name and version number.

The model number is a bit of detective work:
you could have the One Original, the "new edition" (now renamed the "2nd Edition", the "3rd Edition" or the new "One" (with the fold-up mount).
It won't say on it which one it is, but it will say on the box it came in.

Alternatively, see if you can find the number on the bottom label that looks something like "4N01.001"

EDIT: Ignore the above, I now see you said it was a "v3" in the title. Presumably you mean a "3rd edition"?

thanks for the reply

I am running show all menu options, but still can not see the 'extra' safety preferences.

I was told it was a version 3, (but the serial number is 4N00.004)

the version is 6.500 on the front screen

the next screen shows uk and ireland v660.1199

hope this helps

where do I go from here?

thanks again

Whatever model he's got, it's getting long in the tooth - Map v660 was brought out 28th November 2006 (so I guess it's not a ONE Third Edition which is more recent).

Edit to add... Application version 6.500 and map 660 predate Mapshare by a long time, so you'll never get that with the setup you have (even if your model can support Mapshare eventually).

Now we're getting somewhere!

Yes as Dennis says, things are getting a bit old....
A 4N00.004 is an early TomTom ONE "New Edition".
Well, that's what it was called on the box, but as there have been several "newer" ones since then, TomTom call it a "2nd Edition" now.

Just to complicate matters, TomTom's "Home" utility for the PC *does* refer to this model as "v3"... so you haven't actually been lied to, it's just that hardly anyone uses those numbers.

Your software is currently v6.500 (from back in August 2006!) and you can update that for free to v7.903 which will get you some new menu items and a new look.

Unfortunately, although that update will give you the facility to get the speed display, the maps you have don't have the data embedded in them.
For that, you'll need to buy a new map, which is going to set you back about £39.95 for the UK and Ireland. (or you can get all of Western Europe for another £20.

A newer map will also allow you to make corrections and download them from others via MapShare.

A big thank you to both of you for the speedy replies - I certainly would be lost without you guys. Very Happy

I will update to the new map (free) for starters Very Happy

From your experience, is the new map (at £40) worth the expense?? I do not know what you would get with it, so a simplistic answer(especially for me Embarassed ) would be appreciated

thanks again guys.

Phil

There is one VERY significant feature in the newer map - it has the more recent, wider, London Congestion Charge zone. If you live in the sticks and wisely avoid the realm of the wicked, that won't matter one bit to you. But the newer map will also have quite a few more new roads.

Take note - getting a new map is done by paying TomTom over the internet, then downloading the map, for which broadband is necessary. The smaller (UK and Ireland) map takes very little time to download, but the Western Europe one takes a VERY long time - a good thing to set in motion just as you go to bed and wake up to it finished in the morning.

Did we mention backups? Did we mention backups using Windows Explorer, NOT TTHome? If we didn't, before you do anything else tonight, do a backup of your device using Windows Explorer. Read FAQ number 1 HERE then read all the rest of them for a bedtime story. Laughing

I would say a new map will definitely be worth it.

Lots of people ask if it is worth spending the money to update from version "x" to version "x+1" and that's a harder decision, but a lot will have changed in two years worth of updates.
