Updating map on TomTom 720

Hello All,

I recently bought a refurbished 720. I managed to update NavCore to the latest edition. I did not have time to use the latest map guarantee before I went on holiday.

I have just got back and tried to update the map. It seems to have downloaded but then said that there was insufficient memory to install. The only thing I have added is the camera database from this site. Is this a common problem? Is there any way to solve this. I thought that the old map would just overwrite the current one.

Have you considered fitting a large capacity SDHC card to the device and installing maps to that? The TomTom you have will support SDHC cards up to 32GB in capacity although most people make do with the 4 or 8GB size cards.

If you don't want to add a memory card to the device you can slim down the files on the unit but make sure you have a full Windows Explorer nackup before we go any further with this method of removing certain files, how to perform a full backup is #1 on the FAQ page which is near the top of this forum index in the sticky threads - Mike

I've seen other posters with the same problem but, whenever I have updated my map, it has overwritten the old one. I think the last time I had to delete the old map was when I was using TTN 6 on an iPaq.
