Installed and all seemed to be working fine, searched the maps and found much improved Ireland maps; HOWEVER it never detects the GPS!
3002 was previous running MN4 without a problem.
Would there be a config file i need to change ? |

I bought a Navigon 4 package with a transonic 3002. Checked Navigon website and they had an upgrade available to mn6. Being new to Sat Nav I browsed the web and found an update to mn6. Installed it and likewise had the problem of it not detecting the GPS.
A further browse through Navigon website revealed that whilst the 3002 was software upgradeable the compatability section revealed that the GPS was not. I emailed navigon and got the reply that whilst the software was compatable you would also have to buy an external GPS from their website. Something they neglect to mention when your upgrade.
Anyway a little playing around and I actually got it working. Navigon had lied.
To do this all you need do is to replace the spgps.ini file in directory MN6 with the same file from MN4. The file sets up the GPS receiver.
Hope this helps you and others. |

Hi,
I never owned a GPS system before and my friend is selling me his "brand new in a box" Transonic PNA-3002 for $100. But before I purchase it, I wanted to know how hard is it to upgrade the system to the latest features?
Could you please tell me everything I need to know before purchasing this unit such "What do I need to purchase? Instructions? How much will it cost in the end?"
OR Do you think I am better off purchasing a new model?
Thank you advance.

Anna,
Upgrade is quite easy but I suspect it would not be worthwhile. To upgrade you would need to buy MN7 which can be downloaded and installed on to the SD Card. There can be little glitches as the download is about 2Gb and you need various registrations etc. The cost of the upgrade might be about $120.
In UK you can buy a brand new GPS for about $200.
By new. |

stelindee, I don't know your PNA but suspect that you will need to go in to the Settings Menu, setup the GPS manually. You need to set the Com Port by trial and error. Try CP5 for starters and then possibly 9. |
