I've been told that my Traffic HD subscription cannot be updated due to card refusal. On contacting Tomtom they told me that Traffic HD cannot be updated by debit card, only a credit card!!
Since I now don't have any credit cards Traffic is now useless!!!
Anyone else had the same story?? |

That's partly correct. IIRC TomTom can't/won't accept Maestro but do accept those debit cards that use Visa. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi,
I have visa debit cards.
The card number has changed but there doesn't seem to be a system or anyone you can contact to check details, etc if you have changed them - although TT says ring customer support.
Furthermore, if I try to renew through HOME the I get error message to say this item has been already purchased please remove "%28s%29" from your basket: but there is nothing there - it has become a merry go round |

Just got this reply from TT
"It is with regret that I inform you that at the moment, we are only excepting payment for the LIVE services via a credit card and not by debit. It will be available in the very near future, to be able to buy this subscription via scratch cards.
I regret that at the moment there is nothing that I can do." |

Ah, my bad. I'd incorrectly assumed it was he same scenario as with the TT shop.
That's pretty poor, I don't have a credit card either, don't believe in them. That could be a large part of their potential customer base alienated! _________________ Darren Griffin |

And the real annoying thing is that you can't get to anyone who will take the d**n card even if you now approach them with one. Certainly TThome won't work for me - keeps telling me that I have already purchased.
Same old TT - go round and round in circles as I did last week --TT unit said subscription had expired but on trying to renew it said it was active as did TT support!!! |

Ooh, that's interesting. Not that I want the scratch card option but because it shows that they really are looking at other ways to pay, so perhaps the emails of the weekend are indicative of something definitely coming our way. |

Just had an email from TT that my subscription has now been cancelled for Traffic notwithstanding the system will not and cannot let me pay!! (It is still being investigated by TT). One of the penalties for only having a debit card.
Why are TT so rigid - surely it isn't beyond the wit of man (or even TT) to be able to take payments by means other than their rigid, totally inflexible internet system which, if it doesn't work, stuffs their customers!! |

Wondering aloud here but could it be because you cannot enter into a 'subscription' that entails renewals using a Debit Card? _________________ Darren Griffin |

That thought crossed my mind too.
IMHO, giving a company like TomTom a credit card continuous authority is asking for trouble. |

Hi,
I just can't get into TT to pay anything - I keep getting a message from the server "remove %28s%29" from your basket" - there is nothing in the basket! TT have taken it to 2nd level.
I found an old credit card with 2 months left on it so I have activated it. If I could renew my subscription through this via TT HOme I would - but it won't even let me get that far. Jeez, I only want to give them £7.95 and it seems beyound their wit to take anything other than online - if that doesn't work you're stuffed; there seems to be no way round. |

Tomtom now has changed its mind.
TT Home has now gone through and taken my debit card: it has now allowed me to connect without telling me of the errors as listed in earlier posts
TT HD traffic is now active and working! So they do appear to take debit cards |

Actually, I heard on the radio a year or so ago that 'continuous authority' payments via Credit Card are better than ones by debit card? Why? Because a continous authority Debit Card payment can only be cancelled by the payee, not the payer. Therefore you have to effectively ask if the people you have subscribed to would mind awfully, if they'd be so kind, to cancel your payments. Otherwise all you can do is cancel the card.
The article was connected to peopled who'd subscribed to Setanta using debit cards and couldn't stop payments being taken. Moneysavingexpert was the guy giving the info. |

The payee needs to stop credit card continuous authority too. You can Google for numerous examples, like this one
