|
|
Hi
I have a TomTom One XL ( yellow box ) and have been very happy wit it for many months. However i will be going abroad with it soon ( sun 9.50 holiday ) and i need to download an extra map.
However it appears that the SD card hasn't got enough space on it to take the new map...
So my question is how can i copy the SD card and then download the new map ? I have tried copying the programs and files on the SD card onto another SD card and yet the TomTom device will not start up.
Anybody help me here ?
And just to point out, this is for my personal use and i am not trying to pirate the software.
Thanks

First read this post, to make sure you are doing it correctly.:
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com//modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=280501#280501
Once you have done this you can if you wish, delete your original map to make room and download the new one.
Then back it up again as per the above link, you then have 2 working systems with different maps on each, to swap as and when _________________ (GO 730)(One v2 New ED) and still no wiser |

The other issue that often causes problems is the speed of the replacement card, if its not fast enough then the TomTom will reject the card and refuse to use it - you need to get an SD card from a reputable supplier with a fast read speed - Mike |

Yes must agree you can get Kingston SDHC Memory Cards - Class 4 or 6 for as little as £7.99. Class 4 reads @ 4MB/sec, class 6 @ 6MB/sec. _________________ (GO 730)(One v2 New ED) and still no wiser |

Still struggling with this issue
How will i know if the card i am trying to use is to slow ? At the moment i am using a microSD card in a SD card adapter.
I've ordered a faster Kingston card that should arrive by the weekend.
Thanks again |

It won't work!
I'm sorry if that's not very helpful, but TomTom themselves have never been terribly precise about speed, they just specify it must be "fast"
On THIS PAGE they say:
Quote: | Read speed
We recommend that you buy a memory card with the highest available read speed.
Note: Some manufacturers express the speed in x 150 bytes/sec
Example: “50 X” is equivalent to 7.5 MB/sec |
...so you can assume that a 50x speed card will work fine, but they don't actually *say* that.
To be honest, I'd have thought any "known-brand" micro SD card would be new enough to be fast enough, so the problem may lie elsewhere. What exactly are you doing and what exactly are the results. Every detail you can give will help the 'diagnosis at a distance' we have to try... |

Then copied contents of folder to new SD card..
New card then doesnt work in TomTom..
Gets a flashing icon with SD card coming out of unit and a bit X across it...
Hope someome can help here |

Ok just to add...
When the new SD card is inserted into the Laptop it loads the TomTom Home application on my PC and wants to update it

I now remember that there are a few latest maps on SD card where you cannot just copy the card (there is a copy protection bit built into the SD card format, but it doesn't often get used.
(See HERE)
If that's the case here, you may need to use Home to back everything up and then reinstall the system software voices etc to the new card and then download the new map direct to it. |

I've just tried that with the SD card from a Rider 2, everything seems to work, but the rider hangs at the splash screen when I switch it on.

OK, don't understand why you are having all these problems, but what if you use Home to tempoarily remove your existing map? Does that leave enough space on the original card for your new one? |

I'm not brave enough to try that on my one and only working SD card

Western Europe includes the UK so you don't need both _________________ TT Go Essential |

However I can operate my Rider from TomTom Home, but disconnect form the PC and the splash screen is as far as it goes! |
