Creating your iwn POI's

Hi

Can you create your own POI's and upload them to your garmin?

If so, does anyone know how to do it. Basically I want to find all the fishing ponds in Lincolnshire on Google earth and then put them into my Garmin as POI's.

Any help would be much appreciated

This is quite an easy thing to carry out, first of all you need all your locations stored in one single folder under "My Places" call the folder Fishing Locations, next add each lake with its name to the folder.

With all the locations stored right click the "Fishing Locations" folder and choose "Save Pace As" make sure the Save as type box is set to kml(*.kml)

The kml file needs to be converted to a file type that will work with your Nuvi, for this I use GPSBabel which you can download from This Web page. The GPSBabelGUI-2 is the easiest program to use. Tell the application where the kml file is stored and the file type "Google Earth (keyhole) Markup Language" set the output format to "Garmin POI Database" and hit the "Lets Go" button.

Your locations will now be in the correct format for POILoader which is another tool set used to put the POI files on to your Nuvi.

It sounds quite an involved process, but it doesn't take long to do this, it will take you longer to find and name all the locations on Google than converting the data to the Garmin format - Mike
