|

I have tried a search but failed. My son has given me his TTG 500 to fix. The external GPS antenna cable has snapped and the antenna is now missing. Can I fix it somehow.Maplin do replacement antennas with various cables and plugs but all I have is a frayed end. |

Any good?
ORIGINAL EXTERNAL ANTENNA for the TOMTOM GO 300 500 700 (SKU 2625)
Just checking though... Are you sure it is the external antenna? The Go500 normally uses an internal aerial and should work in most circumstances with just that one.
The external aerial accessory was a whole new mounting "shoe", so the cable doesn't come out of the Go itself at all.

Thanks Andy_P. My son has just handed me the remains which he located near to his home. The Connecting plug had pulled out, so I will see how to repair it over the week end. It was a proper TomTom Antenna so I don't know what the couplers are !! MCX or MMCX
Edit. Its the actual screw together coupling, the broken end is what goes into the shoe.
(Maybe this should go onto a different thread.) |

Oh right.
I'm afraid I can't remember which exact plug/socket version it is either.
I'm not sure whether you do still have the actual antenna part, so you have the "other half" to compare?
Another problem is that although the connectors are all fairly easily available and cheap, they are usually crimped onto the cable, and the required tooling often costs LOTs of money. |

On the 500 the external antenna really makes a differnece if you have heated screen etc. particularly in built up areas and difficult conditions.
The antenna came with a new shoe where the TT mounts onto and the wire was soldered to the connections in the base. There is a short lead with a screw connection (sorry not familiar with type) and then the antenna itself has masses of wire with the other half of the connection. I think if you look at the image posted earlier you can just about see this.
Genuine ones are still available on Ebay £10 plus postage £3 currently 20 hrs left on this one.

But as I suggested the required Crimp tool costs an arm and a leg:

Q) Does this plug require crimping and if so do you sell the crimping tool - steve
A) Yes, have a look at order code ZF41U. |

I know what you mean Andy, I'll take the mount with me to Maplins and see if they can make the repair there on site. I doesn't cost anything to ask.. |
