|

Hi all, a neighbour of mine has a N20 model with the original maps, software etc. As the unit is 2 years old, he decided to try and update things. The problem is, when he originally installed everything, he was using Windows XP with SmartST 2006SE. He now has Windows Vista, and when he tried to update, it kept failing. He looked at the Navman website, and it said under Vista, Active Sync needs to be replaced by Microsoft Mobile Device Center.
He downloaded this and tried running it, and a software update was available from Navman.
Bottom line is he couldn't get it working, so he asked me to try on my Windows XP PC. When i connect via USB and turn the unit on, all that happens is that the firmware version shows up in the top left hand corner (N20.v4.11.003) and the initial N20 splash screen.
Device Manager shows a Windows CE USB device, but Explorer doesn't pick it up as a mobile device. If I use Active Sync, it doesn't pick it up either.
Is there any way of restoring it? I have all the original map CD's. I've tried a hard reset etc by turning on and off underneath, but I can't see any way of transferring maps and files etc on to it without it being recognised by Windows
Regards

Have you installed the Smart ST 2006 software to your XP computer, without this the device will just sit there doing nothing - Mike |

Hi Mike, sorry, yes I should have said that in the original post. I also did the upgrade for it. I can select the Europe map from within the software with the map CD in the PC, but it doesn't pick up the device.

Thanks for that. The problem is, how do I reload the firmware when it is not recognised by the PC?

I haven't got any other Active Sync devices to try. However, my friend took the Navman back to Costco, and even though it was over two years old, they gave him a full refund. He promptly bought a Tomtom instead :-).
Thanks to all for their efforts.
