Hi i'm looking to buy a new tomtom and i've been looking at the cost benefit of getting the 920 over the 930 [ £100 difference ], but with the price of the 940 + a £50 fuel voucher being down to £325 inc delivery would this be a better bet ?.
i should point out i'll probably not bother with the HD traffic update's and just get a TMC instead , but for the same price as a 930 would it be better to future proof ? or would you lose some of the functions not having thwe live update connection ?
thanks stuart |

Hmm, that's a difficult one. Normally I would advise prospective purchasers that an x40 that you have no intention of using the LIVE subscription on is no better and in some cases worse than it's x20/x30 equivalent.
However, things like missing mp3 support don't affect the flagship 940 model so if the prices are now comparable it's not so easy to discount.
You would need to factor in the addittional cost of the TMC antenna, none comes in the box on the x40's. Other LIVE features such as Fuel Pricing, Safety Cams etc will not be available to you even if you subscribe and use a connected mobile phone either.
But all the other aspects of navigation remain much the same and so for the better mount and the future proofing aspect I'd say it would be a reasonable buy, so long as the price remains comparable of course! _________________ Darren Griffin |

How much does the GPRS service cost ? as most of the post's on this site seem to rate your camera database better than Tomtom's anyway + what other benefit's would you get with this service ?
Plus what other difference's are there between the 940 with no live stuff and a 930 ? |

TomTom's LIVE service costs £7.99 per month after the 3 month trial expires. You can subscribe on a month by month basis, there is no contract so you can cancel (presumably there is a notice period but I am not sure on this).

Off the top of my head, the FM Transmitter in the 940 is for music only and there is no option to subscribe to other TomTom PLUS Services via mobile phone. The 930 supports iPod connectivity and Line Out as standard, on the 940 both these features are available only by purchasing an accessory mount as the connections are not present on the supplied mount. _________________ Darren Griffin |
