Hi. Hope it's ok to raise this topic again ?

I'm looking to replace an older bluetooth GlobalSat receiver which has been recently stolen.

It was used mostly outdoors with an iPAQ running PocketNav OS5 Ordinance Survey Maps. I have waypoint tracking software already on the iPAQ so having that built into the receiver would not be necessary.
It would be useful if the receiver could also work effectively with TomTom on the iPAQ as well.

I would be grateful of any advice / experiences that might help with the decision. Many Thanks.

Choose one with a SiRFIII, Hammerhead or MTK chipset for best performance. Ideally I'd recommend you buy one from a known brand such as Globalsat, Holux etc and again buy from a dealer, that way you get some support.

Globalsat's BT338 is an old but excellent performer and one I can recommend, EasyDevices have them available at £35 inc VAT.

Others I can vouch for are Holux's GPSlim GR-236, another long standing but thoroughly reliable and tough solution and GlobalSat's BT368 is another newer model, both available at Handtec.

You can save money buying from eBay or buying a no-name device but expect zero support and no comeback if it dies.
