Santa Claus has offered to buy me a new GPS but I can't decide which to get.

I can't decide between the Oregon or the SatMap. I can't find any side by side comparisons between these 2 units and am really stumped!

Both seem ideal with the OS mapping onboard. I will use the unit mainly for Mountain biking and hiking in the UK. The Garmin looks amazing but appears to have jumpy positional updating. I get the impression the SatMap takes longer to aquire satelites but has a stronger lock and updates quicker.

are there any side by side reviews anywhere? Will both these products change significantly in the future with software updates? So many questions so few answers? Help?

Mods: If this topic is not approppriate in anyway or been discussed before please point me in the right direction.

I have a Garmin GPSmap76Cx, and Satmap. Can't speak for the Oregon, but my Garmin gets a lock faster than the Satmap - but we are talking maybe 15 to 20 seconds longer. Not significant when putting your boots on!

The issue for me with the Garmin OS maps, is limited availability. Initially, I believe only the National Parks are available, and maybe some national trails, so I went for Satmap. I watched with interest the tales of woe relating to early Satmap use, and despite being an early adopter of most things, decided to hang fire. I've had one a couple of months now (and I know this is tempting fate!), and have had none of the problems reported with earlier releases,

Rick
