McDonalds have changed from BTOpenzone to Free WIFI supplied via The Cloud.
Would it be possible for the Moderators to do a bulk database change on the POI file to indicate this?

Blow me down, it's true. Just checked the mcdonalds web site.
Can't answer your question, but many thanks for the information.
Never buy the food, but will stretch to a coffee to make use of this.

Rather handy for us always on the go iPAQ users whose built-in GPS units are "assisted", and require regular co-ord file updates!

What takes (when it actually connects) over half an hour by GPRS takes what, twenty seconds or less in McDonalds via wi-fi! Smile

With a bit of luck other organisations may start to offer FREE access particularly hotel chains.

I wouldn't hold your breath. That's a captive market, and well they know it. McDonalds, for all their spurious "green" credentials (I hold about as much stock in those statements as I do in the Tooth Fairy Twisted Evil), they appear to have realised that as a marketing and customer retention plan, it's got a grain or ten of credibility ;)

I was at a Hilton this weekend, not a cheap hotel by any means yet they still wanted £15 per 24hrs for a fixed broadband connection in the room billed midday to midday regardless of when you started.

Most Hotels outsource this service because of the cost and complexity of providing access and support to each room and to users who I imagine are a mixd bag of abilities! As it was, even the room connection was dead and so I used a BTOpenZone voucher for access in the lobby which was better than nothing.

In the US its very rare to find a room that doesn't have wireless and often included in the room rate. Its about time our hoteliers woke up and joined the 21st century!

Many have a solution in their pocket without realising. Use your data enabled PDA/Phone as the laptop modem. Works the same in principal as the mobile broadband USB dongles sold by the major providers, and simple to set up a bluetooth connection with WM devices.

Granted its not WiFi, but its available wherever there is a cell signal.
