Compare TT730 and TT740 help

Folks, my trusty 710 is giving me grief ever since the software upgrade, have done all the Mapsetting.cfg tips, but I give up.
Can't activate or even change the 'warn when near' settings for any POI or the cameras.
Also, all the poxy TT icons for petrol stations etc are showing up (mostly in the wrong places), I trashed them before but they don't show up in the 'Manage POI' file now.

Any way short story long, is the difference between the 730 and 740 mainly the Live functions? Are they same size, same memory, same maps, mostly same functions?
Have looked myself, and think there is not a lot in it.
Personally, I wouldn't be using the Live stuff often - if at all, I don't think.
I want the POI/cameras, lane assist, hands free, Europe maps, ability to muck around with colour schemes and voices etc.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Sorry, want a removable memory - which I think they both have - doesn't matter what type.

Well an x40 is an expensive option if you have no intention of paying the subscription charge associated with the Live services. - The x40 has a better mount and better speaker and you get the IQ2 Routes rather than just the IQ Routes, although given time and updates to software/ maps the x20 and x30 devices will get the IQ2 capability I am sure, as for other hardware I am not too sure, but the x40 range is new rather than the x20 to x30 transition which was virtually the same kit. - Mike

Not sure what to do now. Have tried every which way to sort out the 710 (including the mapsetting thing) to no avail.

I was looking at the 730, but worried if the software was better and going to be better supported by TT.
Are they the same size, I have looked at the x40 range which is shown in metric and the TT site shows 730 in imperial!!

Going to look at the other makers i think, Navman or Garmin I suppose.

I'd say go for a 730 or better still a 720 if you can get one and upgrade it to v8 for free.

If your forum cannot handle 600pix width there is something screwy (Or your trying to wedge too many banner ads in!)

Can't be bothered 450p is a stupid width in this day and age, can't see any detail at a standard screen res., so have just deleted instead, Won't try and help again.

Bad day? The limits have been set to ensure the forum layout is retained not just to annoy you but if it's too much bother then I'm sorry.

The web-site has a set width and once all the other elements have been taken into consideration that is the size we are left with. It's more than sufficient for any image necessary here, any larger is both a waste of space and bandwidth, simple as that.

Wow Guys, hang on hang on.

Darren thanks for the input you made my mind up for me.
Then I saw the pics by Flashyphotos and it was all up in the air again. The pics do put it into a different perspective, and show how clumpy my 710 is as well.

Soooooo, as you can guess I am not what can be called an early adopter where satnav is concerned, but I do like the looks of the 740, has to be said.
If I get that, it is going to last me 5 years or more at least, now will the 730?

Going to sleep on it, but i think it is going to be the 740 even though I won't use it to the full.

The x40 is just an x20/30 with LIVE services. If you don't want/need LIVE then you don't want an x40.

Given the cost of 720/730's currently I'd still suggest that is the best option but it is of course your money. There will always be something new around the corner, nothing is future proof

A new in the box 720 will have the map guarantee. An update to v8 software is free and then you can use the map guarantee to get a v8 map. You then have a 730 in all but name. And a 730 is identical in use to a 740 if you discount access to the LIVE services.

Something else for you to sleep on though, have a good dig around and try and find a 720 for sale, this way you can save a considerable ammount of cash.
Once updated to the latest maps and software the device will behave identical to the 730, again the only difference you will miss out on is the IQ2 Routes once you stop using the Live services offered with the 740. And you get the mp3 player with the 720 if you want such a feature - Mike

Gooing to sleep on it, and in the cold light of day - common sense will rule I suspect.
As you both say, realistically a 720/30 is all that I need.

Thanks Darren.

Looking at the connection methods it shows I did the right thing by following Mikes advice to get a 720 and upgrade to 730 spec.

The only advantage I can see to the 740 is that it's thinner.

So much for getting to sleep on it!

Can get the 730 for £214, and the 720 for around £148 but not many left, in fact Amazon I think had 4 left.
Was looking at the Navigon 2150max, looks good and does what I want, didn't see anything about SD card though.
How does this match up to the 720/30

Definitely off to bed now, or I'll still be here in the morning.
