I have had major problems with my TomTom 720T. I have returned the set to TomTom twice, via my supplier, Comet & am about to return it again. These are some of the faults, before I sent for repair the 1st time:
• Navigate by Points of Interest (POI) didn't work
• Traffic only worked occasionally, when wire moved around
• The Unit switched itself off without reason
• When switched off, it sometimes switches itself back on
• Nokia N95 8GB unable to be used to download, etc
• Extremely difficult to be heard in Bluetooth phone connection
• Safety Camera aural warnings didn’t work
• Error message Unable to store map settings – file access error
Also, the Unit froze & sometimes switched itself off when attempting to Navigate by Favourite & Navigate by Recent Destination & any other “Navigate to.” It had deteriorated to such an extent that it could not be used for any form of route navigation: it only worked as a map, showing position & even then, it switched itself off for no reason.
After the unit was returned by TomTom, it worked for a week, then started crashing/switching itself off.
It wouldn’t backup through TomTom Home- warning message after backup fails - An error occurred while reading this file: “L:\gns\gnsdata.”
The unit froze at least 3 times a day, switches itself back on but wouldn't navigate, unless switched off & on about 4 times.
• It is difficult to be heard with Bluetooth phone connection
• Nokia N95 wireless link has never worked
• When the TomTom does work, sometimes there is an error message Unable to store settings: file access error
When returned the second time, TomTom said there was nothing wrong with the unit, but they must have done something, as all my favourites had gone, nevertheless, after updating using TomTom Home, five minutes after use in car, the error message "Unable to store settings: file access error," appeared, it then switched itself off & the old errors returned.
I have tried the unit in 4 different cars, with the charger on & the charger off, with the same problems

Hello Bob
to the forum.
Most of your problems can be fixed, there are lots of very helpful people here but the first thing you need to do is to get a Windows Explorer (not tomtom home) backup of your device as explained in FAQ # 1 here.
You may still have trouble with the gnsdata file whilst trying to get this backup but let us know how you get on.
Edit to add:
There is a discussion of the gnsdata problem here but do get that backup first if at all possible. _________________ Paul

Unfortunately there are many threads with experiences of users (and I am one) who have torn their hair out trying to get the N95 and x20 to play nicely together.
I have given up connecting my N95 to my 520 and use my original old motorola bt headset

It should work with the Traffic antenna connected. Some of these problems seem linked to running both Traffic antenna and bluetooth phone. As the device is supposed to work with both, obviously it's a fault with these models. You are NOT alone with these problems. Most of us seem resigned to it. For the moment (touch wood) I have stopped the problems because I have two devices and I run Traffic antenna on one, and bluetooth phone on the other. I don't offer that as a solution, but as information to substantiate the theory that it's traffic and bluetooth phone combined.
The backup method recommended here is the method using Windows Explorer, not TT Home. Simply copy everything off your device and paste into a directory (or folder) created for the purpose on your PC's hard disk. Restore is the opposite way round, copy from your hard disk and paste onto the TomTom. We recommend regularly backing up by this method (always into a new directory or folder) and ALWAYS before doing any changes (e.g. buying a new map, downloading new software). _________________ Dennis
