Must haves - Windows based (run Memory Map plus other apps), internal GPS, decent battery life (8 hours +), replaceable battery, rugged and waterproof.
Optional - built in phone.
I've had a Road Angel 7000 for a few years which I've been pleased with but am now looking for something more versatile and rugged. Also had a look at the Satmap A10 but that's a non-starter with it's locked down OS and custom mapping.

The a25 is for sale from the Memory Map web site, I did have a play with one of the prototype units earlier this year and it looked good, although if you budget will stretch a little further the GeTac PS535E is worth taking a look at (much larger screen at 3,5" vs 2,8" and it is sunlight readable)- the downside is cost, IIRC it is over £700 for more information see This Web page - Mike

Hi Neil,
Presumably Mike is saying that the A25 doesn't have a transreflective screen. These screens may not be perfect in bright daylight (and even less so in "cloudy bright" conditions), but at least you can usually see something. Whereas IMHO non-transreflective phone screens are completely useless in bright daylight.
The "Standby Time" specification of 16.5 hours also seems unusually short?
Also the Airo website claims between 8 and 16 hours GPS time which is fine by me, a vast improvement on my RA7000. I can always carry a spare battery as well.
After reading Jeff's excellent write up on his Nokia 6110 I've gone off the idea of a rugged unit and have decided to go for a standard Windows Smartphone/PDA/GPS and a Boxit case, think this will be a much more versatile solution.
My current fav is the HTC P3470 as it seems to offer a good compromise between simplicity and unnecessary bling.
