Hi All,
I hope someone can help me, I'm a bit lost.
I have an iPAQ 1940 want a gps set-up to go with it. I have decided that I want to use TomTom for the in car bits and bobs and Memory map for walking etc.
I have a couple of questions.
If I get the TomTom bluetooth kit will I be able to log my routes when I use memory map? I'm not really bothered about logging car routes, but would like walking etc logged.
Or is data logging only done on the GPS receiver itself? If so would RoyalTek RBT 3000 Bluetooth GPS Receiver be a good choice?
The problem then will be budget I can afford £250 for TomTom / the GPS and car kit, (memory-map will be bought separately at a later date) can this be done?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Regards

data logging can indeed be done either on the hardware (the GPS receiver) or on the software (TomTom Navigator , Memorymap) side. The disadvantage of software data logging is that the PocketPC needs to be on all the time, and the datalog eats into your available memory/storage space.
In addition, software logging is inefficient. Many useless sequences are recorded, and the data is completely uncompressed (NMEA is plain text)
The RBT3000 on the other side is worry free - always on, always logging, and plenty of dedicated memory. If you can afford it, go with hardware datalogging. _________________ Lutz

Hi,
Thanks Lutz, unfortunately I can't find the 3000 for less than £200 which is the same price as the TomTom BT package. I'll have to settle for 'software' logging . Any idea how much space is used up per hour by the text file?

It's a wild guess, but i think it is 2 MB per hour. (a 15 minute drive yielded a 490 KB file) _________________ Lutz
