my 1st 720 was exchanged for the current one under warranty (charge connection on bottom not working), I routinely backed up my TT720, YET when I tried to upload (see expalntion below) my saved POI data to the NEW TT720 - it won't let me (error), wrong serial number I presume.

I've looked - I'm sure it's on here somewhere, but can't find a way to copy my saved data (I've erased the whole device and replaced it with a OLD CAPTURED (iso) if you will ... of the original TT720 - to no avail .... did not work - would not boot up. Erased again and relpaed with original (new iso) - everythings working EXCEPT I don't have my (hundreds of personel POI's).

Any help would be appriciated.

Welcome to the forum.

You can copy your own POIs freely between tomtom devices. There are no serial number checks or anything else to prevent this from happening.

Your POIs will be stored in a .ov2 file in the map folder on the tomtom. It should simply be a case of copying the .ov2 file from your backup of the old device into the map folder on the new device.

If this isn't working can you describe the error message that you are getting more accurately please then someone will be able to offer more advice.

To clarify... one .ov2 file for EACH POI category you've added.

You talk of "iso"s. I don't know much about them (disk images? (usually for optical disks according to Wikipaedia)), but most people do their backups by just copy and pasting everything as simple files and folders from the TomTom drive to a folder on their PC, or burn it to a DVD.

More info required here I think, personal POI files are not protected or locked in any way.

THANKS ALL Bouncing ... problem resolved.

I've done as you suggested and copied the .ov2 files (with icon) into my MAP FOLDER - took me awhile to figure out that the map folder = North America i.e.: current map being used. Again thanks you have saved me an enormous amount of work.

Is it as easy to copy - paste my "speed corrections" that I made on my current map (i.e.: speed limits on local roads that were not in TT database), made lots of "additions" to Winnipeg, Manitoba, North Dakota, Minnesota, Minneapolis - I don't know where they would be stored, any ideas?

Thanks

Yes, this is something we ALL need to be careful about...
For years we have been using as shorthand: "poi files go in the map folder", but my Go720 actually has a folder called "map"!

So ever since I've been trying to find a way to say it quickly but more precisely.
I now end up with something like "poi files go into the folder named after the map you wish to use them with ("Western_Europe" or whatever yours is called)"

NOT very slick or quick to write, but I've not thought of much better.
