|
|
I've just discovered a totally repeatable bug today with my One V3 running 8.010. Have reported it to Tomtom but thought I would warn people on here as it can misdirect you by several miles.
I was going to and address in Walsall today - 39 Park Road WS3 3SS. I had entered the postcode which came up with Park Road OK. I then entered the house number 39 which it said was out of range (as it often incorrectly does) so I accepted the nearest which was 35, and navigated there. Unfortunately it had switched to another Park Road in a different part of Walsall (about 4 miles away).
This is totally repeatable on mine:
Enter postcode WS3 3SS. System finds Park Road.
If you enter no house number it finds the correct Park Road (in the Bloxwich area) if you enter any house number it uses a Park Road near the A34 about 4 miles SE of the correct one.
It also happens with B46 3BP
Without house number it find the correct High Street in Coleshill.
With a house number entered it selects the High Street right in the centre of Birmingham!! Fortunately that one was glaring enough to spot before I went there.
I have never noticed this before and have had the One for a good while, so I can only presume that they have added this bug fairly recently as I do keep the software updated regularly. |

Unfortunately it has been with us for some time.
Although the Postcode is not specific to a particular house, I find in most cases it is pretty close and, as you have found, it does give you more confidence of reaching the required destination.
I have got in to the habit of always reviewing the given route and destination before trusting a satnav. _________________ Richard

"With us for some time". Really? Did you read my post in detail?
I'm not talking about it knowing exactly whereabouts on the road the postcode is, I'm talking about it selecting a completely different road (with the same name) up to 10 miles away, if you try to enter a house number!
I have used my One V3 every working day since they came out, and have never noticed this happening before. It surely must be to do with 8.010 |

Happens on my 720 with v7 software and maps too.
Enter WS3 3SS and then OK without adding a number - gives a Park Road with "Cemetery Way" coming off it
Enter WS3 3SS and then "17" and then OK - gives a Park Road with "Warrens Croft" crossing it.
Enter B46 3BP and then OK without adding a number - gives a High Street in Coleshill, nearest road "Sumner Road".
Enter B46 3BP and then "2" and then OK - gives a Pedestrianised High Street near Birmingham New Street.
So it's not new, but it IS news to me. |

But it's not really the same issue is it?
We all know there can be discrepancies with the town/city a road is indexed under, which can give odd results, but with this one:-
You ask for a particular postcode, which brings up the CORRECT road, but then just adding a house number brings up the WRONG road (or it could be the other way round, I don't have local knowledge of those examples). |

My take on it is this -
When using the Postcode it returns a lat/long to the Find a location element.
When you input a House Number it discards that, but then somehow uses the City, Road combination from the (incomplete) list of Road Names in the in the Road Name DB.
In the Walsall example, there is clearly more than one Park Road, but if you try to find Walsall, Park Road it will only show the one in WS3, and misses out the WS6 one altogether.
I haven't done extensive testing on this, but it has been my experience. _________________ Richard

You have it the correct way round Andy. Adding a house number causes it to switch to the wrong road. |

I think Oldboy has the right idea.
We know the city/street/house number database is included with the map.
But we know the Postcode database is supplied separately.
So at some point they must interact, and if there's a conflict one must win.... |

What I'm interested in is when this bug was "introduced".
I have been using TT Ones since the first one came out, for an average of 5 or 6 destinations per working day, 45 weeks per year, yet this is the first time I have found this bug. I can't believe that on the same day this week, I have entered the first 2 occurances of a duplicate street name within the same general postcode area. I always try to add the house number to the address found initially from a postcode, and have never had this error occur before. I have either been very, very, lucky or this is a relatively new bug. |

I tried the two examples Andy gave on my 300 Ver 7 with 660.1199 UK&I maps
In both cases I get the correct road, but the first example I'm only offered numbers 51 and above and the second one has no numbers at all and just jumps straight to the map screen. |
