M4 Westbound 2nd bridge after Lea Delamere Services - Each lane has what appears to be a numberplate recognition camera and another device possibly a doppler transmitter/receiver - Anyone out there able to enlighten me?

I think there has been talk about something like this in the past and, if I remember correctly, the cameras are ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) with a microwave transmitter.

Something else which I've seen in my own local area recently is TrafficMaster sensors with what look like small CCTV cameras immediately above them.

I hope they are not speed cameras, I went bowling through there on Friday Sad

Can't say that I noticed them, but unless they look like a camera I know about I tend to ignore them. Not a good idea I know.

Along the M27, there are traditional blue TrafficMaster sensors at the side of the carriageway and a few of these have small white things attached to the top which look a little like small CCTV cameras, like this:

They are small, like domestic CCTV cameras, not as large as the typical roadside CCTV cameras.

Next time I pass one, I'll try to get a photo.

IIRC those on the M27 are the road census cameras used to measure traffic density etc and control traffic signals.
