Hi Guys
I've used a PDA running tomtom 6 for about 4 years now and it has worked perfectly, i've always been using the PGW database and now cant live without it, trouble is I've just purchased a honda accord 06 exec model which has built in sat nav, as far as i'm aware theres no way to get the database on this, the 06 DVD is out of date as well but thats another problem.
I was thinking to buy a cheap Navigo or something similar and install my Tomtom on it (should be ok as i'm only activated it on my PDA, which I am now NOT going to use) and just use it for the speed cam alerts with no route planned, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on the best way to do this.
My idea was i'd hard wire it in and leave it on all the time, i'm sure it shouldnt drain the battery unless I did'nt use the car for weeks, other ideas/suggestions would be appreciated! _________________ They dont like it up em sir, They do not like it up em!

You could use Tchart's Speed Sentry s/w which would run on your PDA and doesn't require you to run TomTom at all. See here for more details.
As for the power issue. If the backlight is going to be on then the battery drain will be more - but importantly it will reduce the life of the PDA.
Have you though about getting a cheapo all-in-one GARMIN which have auto power on if connected to a switched power supply?
You may also find it's cheaper to buy a new model rather than upgrade the DVD for your ccar sat nav. _________________ Phil
Many thanks for the reply, I wasnt actually planning on using the PDA as i would have to link it up to a separate receiver, I just wanted a cheap all in one solution.
I didnt realise the Garmin has auto-on, thats exactly what I need, I'm only familiar with the Tomtom range, any idea which is the cheapest that will auto turn on and start warning me about speed cams (no route planned on startup!)

Really want to use the built in sat nav tho, its so convenient just getting in and going
Thanks again _________________ They dont like it up em sir, They do not like it up em!
