Hi All
Well, I have had my A10 for a few days now and have read through the Quick Start and the full PDF guides but would just like to ask for advice on a few points if I may (the unit will be used for both walking and cycling):
1. GPS / Electronic Compass: GPS Compass is more accurate with forward speed and the Electronic Compass is better when static. Switching between the two is determined by the units Speed Setting and is adjustable between 0.5 and 10mph. Default is 1.2mph but would it be better to set it to its lowest setting i.e. 0.5mph? Also, is this all linked to the 'GPS Used as Heading at' option?
2. Compass Settings:
A: Grid Magnetic Angle - Manual or Automatic setting?
B: Bearing Display - Show Grid Bearings or Show Magnetic Bearings?
3. Elevation Data: I would have thought the 'GPS' setting would be the one to chose here but apparently it's less accurate than the 'Ordnance Survey' setting. The latter, I believe, taking the readings from height data on the maps. Would people recommend the 'Ordnance Survey' setting?
That's it.....for now Thanks, _________________ Regards, Paul |

No thoughts at all? No one willing to advise on what settings they use with regard to the points listed above? _________________ Regards, Paul |

Paul
You wanted a response.
GPS/Electronic compass - why better guess Satmap? If you want to fine but I don't bother.
Compass settings: I have not bothered to alter the default. Why do you want to?
Elevation data: I have set mine to GPS as it seems logical to use the GPS data. I can read the map data at any time. But I note that several people have noted that the map derived data is probably more accurate.
I hope that helps you. _________________ LostMike

Thank you for taking the time to reply.
GPS/Electronic compass - not quite sure what you mean by 'why better guess Satmap?'. As I understand it automatically switches between the two depending on if you are stationary or moving. If it switches to GPS compass when moving (as this is more accurate) then wouldn't it be better to have the units Speed Setting as low as possible i.e. 0.5 as opposed to the default of 1.2mph? I'm not sure hence my question.
Compass settings - it's not a case of me 'wanting to' change/alter the settings. Again, I'm asking for advice on which would be the better to use and possibly an explanation as to why, if recommended, to stick to the default settings.
Elevation data - I would have thought GPS setting would be the right choice here but as you say, and as is advised in the manual, this is less accurate than the map derived (OS) data so I will probably use the OS setting. My reason is I would imagine all the stored data would be more accurate when viewing 'post ride/walk' etc. Again, I was looking for feedback from other users as to what setting they use and how they find it.
Again, thank you for your reply. _________________ Regards, Paul |
