|
|
Apple's World Wide Developer Conference got under way in San Francisco today (6PM GMT+1) and news of the new iPhone model is beginning to filter through.
As expected it will sport 3G but most importantly the new model will contain a GPS receiver. Although GPS support had been discovered in the SDK some weeks ago, the possibility that the new model would contain a GPS receiver was far from certain.
It's unlikely that the iPhone will ship with a navigation package, Google Maps is already pre-installed but doubtless the Appstore will be the place to look once it opens for business. _________________ Darren Griffin |

That's not necessarily good news if you're using it on another network. The new phone discount may mean it's not so easy to buy without signing up to a an 18mth contract as it was previously _________________ Darren Griffin |

Not read the full spec for the phone, but hope that they now allow the phone to connect to a Mac via bluetooth, and i hope any wifi connection works better than it doesn't on osx 10.5.3 on my MBP.
Oh, and did I mention a 5mp camera?, removable battery and card slot?

I hope the rumour is true but let's wait and see what transpires. Engagdget could be fishing here as we have had no such information insider or otherwise. Had I known but been subject to NDA I could say nowt but as I don't I can confirm I know nothing if that makes any kind of sense!
Does look good though _________________ Darren Griffin |

Engadget quoted GPSReview who quoted Reuters.
Doesn't look like "fishing" to me.

£99 to upgrade. It's a buy for me. Hope tomtom are quick getting software out then I can sell my tomtom one.
I get sick of having to buy new tomtom units to get new features. Provided tomtom update the software on a fairly regular basis it would be nice to avoid this. |

Are you sure about the 5mp camera. It wasn't mentioned in the keynote presentation last night and I have seen other sites moaning about the camera being the same as the current one.
I am hoping it will still support edge. 3G is not covered where I am and looks like not likely to be in the near future. |

i read that as a wishlist of things they would like to see before they would even consider getting one!

O2's web site has tariffs advertised, and they are talking about pay as you go - no prices associated with those yet. But they are talking about 99 pounds with an 18 month contract at 35 a month.

I would love to know how good the GPS is in respect to sensitivity. If it uses a proprietry chipset etc. |
