|
|
I'm in the process of updating my garmin i3. I can't remember how I did it last year! I've updated mapping to city navigator 2008 two questions
What database (I've assumed speed zoned), but dowloaded and unzipped it's about 1.3 MB whereas consolidated is about the size file I had previously!
How do I keep european cameras in KPH and UK in MPH if I have to upload POI at the same time?
I'm using 4GB micro SD cards
Anybody any ideas!

Hi and welcome.
This sticky thread tells you how to load the Uk and European Databases.
Personally i use the Consoldiated Database on Garmin units. |

many thanks for the information-I've loaded the UK maps/MPH POI onto 1 SD card and Eur maps/kph onto another. I'll go back and follow the thread to separate the databases onto 1 sd card.
I have been thinking about updating the i3 but the more modern garmin units seem to have become entertainment centres- All I want is mapping and POI speed camera database! The only fault with my i3 is inputing data via the wheel.
tmc coverage is useful but I understand we have limited coverage in the uK which is better on mainland europe, particularly germany.
The cyclops databases supplied with the new units as "free" are limited to the UK (expensive update) and are incredibly expensive as you have to buy data bases for each european country. Can you erase the cyclops database or is it built into the unit firmware? (if I buy a new unit)
Thanks for your help again- I am avery satisfied subsciber.
regards

True i never use the mp3 player or the FM transmitter but do use the Bluetooth for the phone.

Again true. When TMC works it's a joy, but when it fails or the coverage is poor......

I believe you can delete the files from the unit. There is a thread on which files you can delete (here) but i just have it switched off... |

Many thanks have followed your thread-sorry to have repeated myself but i've never used a forum before
I'm not hugely computer literate so please forgive me if this seems repetitive.
If you an delete CyclopsSample files in the POI directory I assume you just replace them with pgps files via poi in the normal way (separating KPH and MPH)
I haven't used a unit as yet but I assume you access camera data on the touch screen via firmware linked to POI-does this link go to pgps data once cyclops erased or am I overcomplicating the situation?

To clarify you use POILoader as you did with the i3. Exactly the same procedure.

Sorry but i don't really understand what you are asking there.
The PGPSW database will be loaded under the Custom POIs in the same manner as it was on your i3. The only difference between the i3 and the Nuvi is you need to disable / delete the Cyclops database. That's it. If you used the i3 without problems it just a small step up to the Nuvi's and we're here if you need us. |
