Hi Everyone,
I'm after some more help. Following my recent request for advice on which sat nav to go for etc I decided to get the TT920. I have a paranoid fear of putting it anywhere near my PC for updates following other disasters. Anyway, following some great help and advice from Anita here on the forum, and reading all the relevant links about reviews, back ups, downloads etc etc I took the plunge.
Guess what? It went wrong straight away. By that I mean I got an error message saying"USB device not recognised. One of the USB devices attached to this machine has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognise it." Marvellous.
Following some more advice, it seems there is no SD card inserted in the slot. Should there be as currently there is a blank? A bit like my mind really.
Has anyone else come across this? If so so what did you do and if not then I guess I have another duff unit. Not really confidence inspiring.
Thanking you in advance for any pointers.

As new the Device doesn't have an SD Card.
Are you plugging the Device into a USB1 Port? Or using a USB Hub?
It has been know to give random problems.
Try a different Port and/or USB cable.
You don't say which OS you have. Are you running with a 'limited rights User Account' which might include a setting for USBs?
I Googled for USB device not recognised. _________________ Richard

Hi Richard,
Thanks for the reply. With reference to your points:
I'm using a USB port on the front of my PC. It's one of a built in pair so I'm guessing it's a proper port and not a hub. I've connected other items via this port such as cameras etc and never had a problem. I have also tried another cable with no effect. The OS is XP.

Have you tried a Port at the back? These are generally connected directly to the Motherboard and sometimes give better performance.
The front ones are at the end of a lead.
That's only a possibility, not generalisation. _________________ Richard

Just had a look. No spare USB's on the back. They're being used for the modem and printer. What about re-saetting the device even though I've not done anything except turning it on? It's looking like a trip back to the shop :-(((((((((((( |

A Reset is always worth a try. It cures quite a few ills.
Next try unplugging the printer and use that Port.
After that I don't know. _________________ Richard

Tried a reset. No different. Then had a brainwave. Tried TT on my laptop. Same thing !!!!!!! So I'm guessing a duff unit. Not encouraging. Off to the shop I go. Proof positive why I hate putting these things near Pc's. Oh well.
Will let you know what happens. |

Hi Andy,
Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated. I've managed to get the unit "seen" by my PC now. Don't know what I did but hey ho. I straight away did a back up and I'm now looking forward to seeing what it can do.
I'm guessing the camera database could do with a refresh and looking at the comments on here the PGPSW one is the one to go for. I'll be subscribing soon and if I need anymore help rest assured I'll be on here asking those with a much better understanding than me :-))
All the best.
