Trying to short-circuit the search here instead reading through tons of threads.

Got a TT 920 with UK, Europe and North America Maps.

Got a HP PDA supplied with just one UK city map as a free gift in the purchase.

Can the map be transferred across?

What is the legal limitation? I am the legal owner of both devices.

Normally I would just do it (suck and see) but the large map requires another purchase of a 2Gb SD mini card and it is not worthwhile if there is an issue with it.

Thanks in advance for any pointer

Where is the city map from, I would have thought the 920 would include all the main cities within Western and Central Europe plus North America - or are you looking to take the maps from the 920 to place them on the PDA, if that is the case it will not work - Mike

The original map was from downloading Internet, as TomTom program was shipped with the PDA. TomTom does sell UK and European map for the PDA but I could not find if the same map is used on Tom Tom 920.

The TT920 has two lots of maps under two different directories. I have already moved the North American map, by copying it onto a 8Gb SDHC card to free the internal memory and the TT unit can pick it up just the same.

The UK and Europe maps are in a single directory I think and can be moved from a fat32 partition inside the TT unit to another Fat16 partition in a mini SD card by any computer. The latter is used by HP PDA as it is unable to recognise a Mini SD card larger than 2 Gb. Fat16 filing system has a address limit up to 2Gb.

I am after experience and information to see if the UK map from a TT920 can be copied into a HP PDA thereby enabling it to be used.

If it doesn't work can anybody tell me the reason behind it. The TomTom on my PDA appears remarkably similar to the 920 devoted unit.

In a word, it's illegal. Your 920 maps are restricted to installation on only your 920. If you had two 920s, it would be illegal to copy from one to the other. If you did copy from one to the other, it wouldn't work anyway, as it is activated only to the one device.

TomTom are rightly very paranoid about piracy and have introduced new measures to prevent it.

Whilst on this site we don't think well of some of the measures they've introduced (which make ownership a difficult experience at times), we nevertheless DO agree with and support their condemnation of piracy. (So with respect, we wouldn't help you to do it, sorry).
