Sir Richard Branson stunned an invited audience of the tech world's glitterati today at the CTIA Wireless Show in Las Vegas during his pre-show speech.
He announced that he is heading a private interest consortium that consists of himself, Bill Gates and the World's richest man, Warren Buffet, and is in "advanced talks" with the US Government to buy the complete US GPS Satellite System.
He stated that he has also put in a bid for the emerging European, Chinese and Russian systems. He said "these systems, owned by differing governments, are a problem waiting to happen". He continued "wars we will centred around the information carried by these satellites, so industry cannot trust the governments with such valuable assets".
When pressed for further comment, Sir Richard replied with "watch this space". _________________ Robert Brady |

No, it's so that he can use an airline form of TMC to ensure his planes don't go near Terminal 5 _________________ Andy

A stroke of genius on Branson's part - he can then rent the technology to his rival (BA) so that they can track those thousands of items of luggage _________________ Andy

The highlight of my day in CTIA today was Richard Branson (who arrived in a hot air balloon at the Palms Hotel) coming up with his own April Fool during his keynote speech.
He coolly announced a Virgin joint venture with Google, called Virgle. He said he wanted to put 30 humans and a selection of animals on a Noah's Ark type spaceship and send it to Mars. This got the desired whoops and cheers from the audience.
Totally straight-faced, he then asked for volunteers, who would be brave enough to undertake the trip, to join him on the stage and was immediately swamped by dozens of people! _________________ Robert Brady |
