Alternative Routes using TomTom Navigator

I have recently bought my iPAQ h2210 and TomTom software. I enjoy caravanning and the benefits of Sat Nav are substantial. I trialled it this last weekend for the first time. I have a couple of problems I hope can be answered.
First: How often can I get upgrades to the maps? I travelled on the A120 around Stansted airport and the new roads were not mapped - I was driving through fields!
Second: When I am towing my caravan I prefer not to travel on B or C class roads. Can I programme to use Motorways and/or A roads to, say, within 5 miles of my destination?

Map upgrades are usually once a year, when the next major release is made available. These are usually at an upgrade cost, but TomTom have been known in previous upgrades to make them available for around £30-50. TomTom Navigator 3 is due out shortly and it will be announced at CeBit, so expect upgrades soon!

You can, but only by adjusting the speeds of the roads, which will then mess you up for when you aren't towing a caravan and you'll have to remember the settings and set these back.
