Aside from the section relating to configuring warnings, the guide for installing Safety Camera POIs also applies to ordinary POIs, see our guide here.

In summary (assuming you use a PC):
  1. Download your chosen Points Of Interest file. You will be prompted to Open the file or Save the file (the exact wording will be dependent upon which browser and operating system you are using). Choose 'save' and make a note of where you save the file.

  2. Locate the file you have just downloaded and right-click the file. Choose 'Extract files here...' from the menu that will pop up.

  3. Choose where you want to extract the files to by following the on-screen instructions.

  4. Connect your TomTom Go/Rider/One to your PC using the supplied USB cable.

  5. Open 'My Computer' by either double clicking the icon on your desktop or by selecting it from the Start Menu (dependent on what version of Windows you are using).

  6. Your TomTom device should now be visible in 'My Computer' as a 'Removable Disk'.

  7. Open the TomTom drive, by double-clicking it, and then open your map folder. The name of the map folder will be dependent on which mapset you have installed but will be similar to 'Great_Britain-Map' (if you have only UK maps), ‘Western_Europe-Map' (if you have full European maps) or 'United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland' (if you have a newer One model).

  8. Locate the folder where you extracted the files in Step 3 above.

  9. Select all the poiname.bmp and poiname.ov2 files. Copy them by holding 'CTRL' and pressing 'C'.

  10. Go back to your map folder and paste the files by holding 'CTRL' and pressing 'V'.
That's it, you have now transferred the POI files to your TomTom. You can now access the POIs by selecting Navigate to | POI | POI Name.

Those instructions are great. even I could understand those, thank you. I assume that it would be the same for garmin poi download as with the TomTom.(except for selecting Garmin)

The download process is the same, yes.
But the way you upload them onto your device is very different.

Most Garmins use their "POI Loader" software to get the POI files onto the machine, and for that to work properly, you have to send ALL your POI files to the machine in one go. If you want to add another file you have to upload them ALL again.
Most people keep all their POI files in one folder on the PC for this reason and then add any new ones to that folder before uploading.
