Exchanged my 720, got New map, so how do I restore a Backup?

Loosely as per the title...

I have today received a replacement Go 720.

Problem is, having used the Latest Map Guarantee, I now have a newer map than my previous one did (v715 instead of v710).

So now that I have this on my device, what's the best way to restore my data over to it, WITHOUT over-writing the newer map?

Would this work:

1. Copy newer Map Folder of new device, to a separate folder on my pc.
2. Copy my entire backup folder contents from PREVIOUS device, over to new device, overwriting everything on the new device, including newer map.
3. Then copy the new map folder, saved to pc in step 1, over to my new device, thus overwriting ONLY the newer map data back to device.


Is this the way to do it?

Any ideas or pitfalls to be wary of I should know?

Depends what "data" you mean...

Mapshare corrections won't copy across.

Old Mapshare POI corrections will:-
Copy the CAxxxx.ov2 files from old map folder to new.

Your Favourites, POI warning settings and Home Location :-
copy 'MapSettings.cfg' from old to new

Your POIs:-
copy ALL the files called
{poicategory1}.ov2 (this is the data file)
{poicategory1}.bmp (this is the on-screen icon file)
{poicategory1}.ogg (this one is the optional sound file)
{poicategory2}.ov2
{poicategory2}.bmp
etc. etc.
from old to new.


TomTom's own POIs:-
These are stored in a file called 'poi.dat'. You could copy that across from the old map folder to the new, but you will obviously lose any updates that TomTom have made to them.

Don't try what you suggested. Looks like a recipe for disaster! (and most of your own settings are stored in the map folder anyway).
