Hi All,
Last night I updated the software on my nuvi 760T from version 2.4 to 2.5 using the web updater. This appeared to be successful but I decided to check a saved route that I wanted to use today. I found that the route data, start point, end point & way points had been deleted or corrupted such that they did not display. Only the route title remained in the route listing. All favourites & "Recently Found" points appeared unaffected. I re-entered the route data, the route calculation screen did not appear and the subsequent map screen showed only straight lines between points. This seemed to confirm that no route calculation had taken place. I eventually deleted the route completely and re-entered it as a new route. This worked as normal and the nuvi performed as advertised today. I can only think that this occurred as a consequence of the software update, but obviously can't prove it. It certainly had me worried!
This post is just a warning to potential updaters.
edit:
Reply from Garmin states that during some software updates the unit will do a full factory reset. Why this should delete only some user data was not stated

Hi arriva,
I connected the unit via the USB cable to the PC, it switched on into "connected to PC mode" and then I fired up the Web Updater, it told me that an update was available; I selected this and it updated. This has worked successfully for me updating from 2.10 originally through 2.30 & 2.40 to 2.50.
Your situation sounds pretty scary, I'm sorry, but I can only give you my experience. I suppose you could always try it whilst connected to Garmin on their freephone number. (0808 238 000) during working hours.
Good luck!
