I've read that the Blue has high sensitivity and rarely loses a fix when used with an antenna. I want to use it with and w/o an antenna and I'm looking for some real world experiences relative to signal strength.

If I'm off road in a vehicle with large trees on both sides of me will I likely maintain a signal using an antenna mounted on the top of the vehicle? How about in a canyon river rafting w/o the antenna? Or hiking in on a "woodsy" trail w/o antenna? I'm new at all of this and just trying to get a perspective as to how tough it is to lose contact w/ enough satellites. thanks

An external antenna really won't help in these sort of environments, they're just going to do the same as the internal one, the only difference is depending where you put it on the body work you could angle it better. Usually an external patch antenna is bests required when you have a UV coated windscreen or have the GPS out of view of the sky.

The patch antenna in the RoyalTek is good, not quite as good as the Emtac but nevertheless still pretty good.
