I got it today, its going back tomorrow - please help

Pleas help before i totally loose all reason!

i got a vm970t new edition today....having had a medion for years - in 3 hours my blood pressure has reached boiling point!

1. tmc wont find signal (endless search even though it says 2 of 5 bars)
2 tmc has now stopped looking for signal and wont start again
3 its running 7.0.2 so i thought 7.0.3..ahhh noo that fails during installation, no meaningful error messages, no log files, no help just FAILED
4 Annoyance this one...you cant register using I.E you HAVE to use firefoxz so your country comes up
5. content Manager throws script errors on every page...

I have tried partial and full reboots....

please tell me im missing something obvious before i ship the thing back to the retailer with an 'unfit for purpose!' and go and buy another navigon that has just WORKED for 4 years +, also how d oyou contact tech support i cant find anything anywhere...

Hardware Reset (only for extreme situations!):

The hardware reset enables your product to be reconfigured to its initial settings. A reinstallation of the software via the SD card will be necessary following this operation:

1:- Disconnect your ViaMichelin Navigation X-980T from your PC and/or from the mains supply.
2:- Simultaneously press the volume "down" button, the on/off button and the "reset" button (using the stylus) for a few seconds in order to switch off the device.
3:- At this moment the screen will black out but you should see a very light, grey tinted image on the device screen. We suggest that you repeat the procedure if your screen shuts down completely.
4:- Simultaneously press the volume "up" button, the on/off button and the "reset" button (using the stylus) to re-start the device.

Result:
All personal POIs, including POIs installed via the POI Manager, and the destination history will be retained.
Any special settings (languages, speeds, times, etc.) will be lost.

When the screen comes back on on, a progress bar is displayed at the bottom of the screen. Wait for the blue line tp completely fill this area and turn green before releasing the buttons.Then re-insert the SD card into the PND and select the settings to reinstall the navigation programs.
