With having a TT GO 510, I had no hesitation in getting my parents a TT One V3 Christmas cracker for Christmas, complete with £10 voucher. I expected to be able to use it at Halfords or something, but no. You can only use it at Widget.com online and on certain products which are extremely overpriced, so the £10 voucher is virtually worthless. For example, the home charger is £19.99 plus postage, and I can get that for under a tenner on Ebay including postage. The only worthwhile thing would be the voice downloads, but they're advertised at £9.99 with "Internet connection needed" although if you go to buy, you have to have 2 voices, The Don and Sylvia, neither of which appeal. To add insult to injury, get this, you CAN'T DOWNLOAD THEM? Oh no, you have to buy a voucher which they send through the post (getting you to pay postage) so that they can make their money. A total rip off in my view. All of the accessories on there can be got from Ebay for under a tenner.
Anyone else notice this? Or have any comment? |

It seems that you consider that what was available for your £10.00 voucher was worthless, could that be something to do with the fact it was considered to be a free gift? As there is no such thing as something for nothing or a free lunch what would you expect? |

Yeah. "UK£ 127.30 = US$ 250.20815".
Ouch. The One LE/One 2ndEd was $139.99 over Christmas here. |

What you have to remember is that this country is no longer called Great Britain but has been renamed by us Brits to 'RipOff Britain' . You can now see why |

Ah but you have to remember... it costs SO much more to send a TomTom from Holland to England than it does to send it to the US.
And it costs so much more to pay a immigrant worker with no union rights to look after it in a warehouse in the UK than it does an American worker.
Err....maybe? |

Andy. I hadn't thought of it that way before. Perhaps we are getting a bargain then? |

Come on guys, you are using TomTom. You should be used to being ripped off. e.g their 50% off maps offer etc. Don't bother complaining to them though, you won't get a sensible answer, sometimes no answer at all if you ask a difficult question. _________________ Bazzza

So why not buy a TomTom in the USA if it's much cheaper? Maybe because the maps are different? Hmm, perhaps that explains the price difference too?
Or am I missing something here... _________________ Gone fishing! |

Well.... Carriage costs, import duties, wrong mains power supply, wrong maps for a start.

American maps are a lot bigger than UK ones, and the US model needs more memory to fit them on. shouldn't that make OURS cheaper? |

There is one other factor. We are a much bigger market for satnav and it is much more widely used here than in the US.
Hence supply and demand factors prevail, they need to break into the market there and so will be cutting margins to the bone, here it is a much more mature market and TomTom are already well established. _________________ Darren Griffin |
