All
Just tried entering a lat/long into tomtom 6.030 it defaults to East on the long if you don't enter anything but then ignores the minus.
So for example, I'm trying to get to :-
Lat: 51.238808 Long: -0.260861
Which is E-0.260861 tomtom just removes the - and I endup somewhere entirely different, is it just me?
Cheers

Have you tried using the large N.S.E.W. letters to preceed the numeric value, ignore the pos/ negative, the device can work out from the S or E selection that it should be a negative value:
N51.238808
E0.260861
The values above should do what you want - Mike |

I know what you're saying and I could just convert the E-0.260861 to a W0.260861 and it would all work, but why does TT remove the minus.
This all started because I was sent a link to this hotel :-
http://www.devere.co.uk/venues/Hartsfield-Manor/contact.aspx
And I quote :-
So, if you're lucky enough to own a Sat Nav system then please use these co-ordinates below:
Sat Nav Coordinates
Lat: 51.238808 Long: -0.260861
If you just blindly put those into TT you'll end up in the wrong place :/ |

I have the same version of TomTom, but can't see any way to actually enter the minus sign on the co-ordinate entry page, so don't understand how TomTom could be 'removing' the - !
I think the problem is that the original co-ordinates quoted are not in the correct form for direct entry into TomTom.
A quick Google produced this from Whatis.com:-
'Latitude angles can range up to +90 degrees (or 90 degrees north), and down to -90 degrees (or 90 degrees south).
Longitude angles can range up to +180 degrees (180 degrees east), and down to -180 degrees (180 degrees west).'
The original co-ordinates were using the +/- form, whereas TomTom requires the N/S, E/W form. _________________ Getting older and more senile by the minute !

The format supplied for the hotel is as you would use to add to an existing POI file. As an example I have a POI file called My_Favourites.ov2
Rather than add the whole Travelodge file to my Go for this last weekend meet, I just added the one location I was staying at, and the one for the pub. _________________ Graham.

Arh the joys of having a real keyboard on my treo 650, so at least most people will be unable to enter the wrong long. |
