|
|
After a series of issues trying to install the new 7.10 Europe map (which still doesn't work, but one step at a time!) my computer voices appear to have disappeared, can these be legitimately downloaded?
p.s. I've tried restoring a backup, still not working - can I pull the files out manually? |

When you say they've disappeared, do you mean they have gone from the 910s hard disk or just that they aren't sounding?
That will make a big difference to how you should proceed.
I haven't got a 910, so can't be specific, but if you use Windows Explorer to search the Go's harddrive, what do you see in the "Loquendo" folder?
There should be some BIG files in there.
My 720 has it at 88MB with 2 voices and I know the 910 versions of the voices are much bigger.
One quick thing to try. Does your version of software have a "Return to factory settings" option? |

Using Windows Explorer locate the Loquendo folder and right click it, select "Properties" from the pop up and what size does it report back, if it is still as supplied the folder will be around 4GB (the TTS files on the 910 are considerably larger than the newer x20 devices).
There is no download available to recover lost files as such, do you have a backup taken with Windows Explorer available on your PC, or was your backup taken using TomTom Home?
If you can answer the above we can then ask a couple more questions to ascertain the true status of the TTS Loquendo folder and point you to fixing the problem (I hope, as I suspect this is another case of a 910 Home backup messing the folder and file names up for the TTS system, if so it is recoverable) - Mike |

'evening gents. Thanks for the replies, sorry about my delay, internet access is intermitent.
LoquendoTTS folder on the tomtom is 10.5KB, which is suspect is far from a good sign.
I did the backups using home, but not done one since the latest version of home.
There is a restore factory settiings option, but I'm reluctant to hit it if it's not going to help.
I really appreciate your interest and questions and look forward to any further comments or assistance! |

Have a look on your PC for the backups you have made, as you used TomTom Home you can start that and select Preferences/ Folder Preferences this will show you what folder path to look at for your backup files.
The Loquendo folder when found for each backup should be 4GB in size, if you locate one that is that large come back and ask before going any further, don't simply restore the backup to the device if you cannot find a backup you will have to talk to TomTom - Mike |

The reason I didn't want you to re-install the backup containing this data was that it could still be messed up, early versions of TomTom Home renamed the files and folders so I want to know the file structure is intact before putting it back on the 910.
Using Windows Explorer locate your back up that contains the 4GB LoquendoTTS folder and open it, next click the EnglishGb folder to open it, then open the Kate folder, it should contain the following files (Check the case of the letters though as you might find they are all lower case):
Kate16li.bin
KateTT16li.bin
LoqKateGildedSde.so
LoqKateTTSde.so
KateGilded16li.bin
KateTT.lex
LoqKateSde.so
Please report back if the file and folder names match exactly what I have typed above in bold, if they are lower case in your backup don't worry as we can easily recover this situation - Mike |

In which case your back up is sound, connect the 910 to the PC and using Windows Explorer right click the back up LoquendoTTS folder and choose "Copy", next go to the TomTom drive letter on the PC, right click and select "Paste" when prompted to overwrite existing files etc answer yes, this will replace the damaged files and folders on your device - being a 4GB transfer this will take some time - Mike |

Cheers Mike, that's all copying over, says 5 hours left, although I suspect it will be quicker! I'm off to cook dinner and watch spooks, will report back later if it's completed before I need to be tucked in or tomorrow! |

At least the folders and files are named correctly, if not you would have been up far longer than 5 hours to recover the situation, it won't take that long to copy to the device though.
I think there might be an easy way to recover incorrectly named files very soon, but to get the UK Male and Female TTS files working IF the file names are all lower case in the LoquendoTTS folder you need to re-name the files/ folders to reflect this little lot:
Open the LoquendoTTS folder on the PC and the folders for UK based voices should be named:
EnglishGb
EnglishTE
EnglishUs
lib
The files within this folder should be:
Amalia.vde
Bernhard.vde
Carmen.vde
Dave.vde
default.session
Dutch6.5.lde
EnglishGb6.7.lde
EnglishTE6.6.lde
EnglishTE6.7.lde
EnglishTE6.8.lde
EnglishUs6.6.lde
EnglishUs6.8.lde
Eusebio.vde
French6.2.lde
French6.5.lde
German6.5.lde
Italian6.5.lde
Jorge.vde
Kate.vde
Katrin.vde
LicenseCode.txt
Luca.vde
Paola.vde
PortuguesePt6.3.lde
PortuguesePt6.5.lde
Saskia.vde
Simon.vde
SpanishEs6.5.lde
Stefan.vde
Susan.vde
Willem.vde
Now open the EnglishGb folder, within it should be folders named:
Kate
Simon
The files within this folder should be:
EnglishGb6.7.atm
EnglishGb6.7.lex
EnglishGb6.7.phd
roadnr.EnglishGb6.7.lex
sms.EnglishGb6.7.lex
Now open the "Kate" folder, within it should be files named:
Kate16li.bin
KateGilded16li.bin
KateTT16li.bin
KateTT.lex
LoqKateGildedSde.so
LoqKateSde.so
LoqKateTTSde.so
Go back up one level and open the "Simon" folder, within it should be files named:
Simon16li.bin
SimonGilded16li.bin
SimonTT16li.bin
LoqSimonSde.so
LoqSimonGildedSde.so
LoqSimonTTSde.so
SimonTT.lex
The above will get your Kate and Simon voices working, you will need to do similar for the other voice folder and files to get them working again, once it is working PLEASE back it up using Windows Explorer - note newer versions of TomTom Home do not suffer this problem - Mike |
