Is there some difference between powering from the desktop dock and the vehicle ciggy lighter?
I have mine set to switch off when external power is lost (or whatever the correct wording for battery saving).
Whilst out in the van, powered from lighter, the device happily stays on even when it's not navigating (although it is still updating position).
Whilst on the USB dock on my desktop, when it's switched on but not doing anything, after a while it switches off automatically.
Why the difference? - is it truly idle when on the dock? surely it is still checking for movement (and updating that it's still in the same place) just as it must do when not navigating in the van? _________________ Dennis

Seriously, although it might still be updating. It has the ability to sense when there is no data traffic between the Device and the PC (or Mac) and I would think that lack of this is what powers it down. _________________ Richard

It's not connected to the PC, so it can't sense no data moving to/from PC. It's simply switched on, but not navigating. That's just the same (to my mind) as when it's on the van mount, with route cleared.
I suspect the spider inside is a wise old thing and can sense no movement, so it goes to sleep - whilst in the van, the vibration tells it we're moving, so it stays alert. _________________ Dennis

I dunno about pins - the 720 just has a mini USB hole and you either shove the desktop dock up it, or the in-car ciggy adapter up it.
Where's old Screwdriverhands Mikealder when you want him?? I bet he's had at least two of them down to mini micro nano bits (and put them back together again too!). _________________ Dennis

Aren't you getting a bit long in the tooth to go shoving things up it or in it? _________________ Graham.
