The rear seat belts often have two of the buckles clumped together, making it easy to accidently unclip the wrong seat belt.
Having recently experienced a situation where the rear seat belt holding a child seat in place was unknowingly unclipped, it may be wise to highlight this problem and identify a cheap and easy solution.
Unfortunately, the female driver concerned hadn't noticed that the seat belt had been unclipped, nor did she know how long she'd been driving her child around in a child seat which wasn't fitted securely.
I did try wrapping electrical tape around the buckle, but this isn't easy and then there's the problem of removing the tape if/when the child seat has to be taken out.
The idea of a plastic cover struck me....but I then found that somebody beat me to my millions, so for anybody interested in the safe use of their child seat, this might be of interest:
Quote: | This seat belt cover is designed to help prevent the accidental release of the seat belt by small children, ensuring additional child safety and peace of mind when driving.
The seat belt cover does not restrict seat belt release in an emergency
For use on the in-car fixed car seat belt
Guards against belt release.
Safe in an emergency.
Easy adult release.
The seat belt cover fits onto the car seat belt and is slid down to cover the buckle release mechanism. Just slide it up again to expose the buckle. |
I've seen these in a couple of online stores for £3.95 (inc P&P) and £2.75 (+£1 P&P) -

wanna know what i do? twist the buckle 180 degrees so the button is up against the car seat and covered by the belt itself - you can have that tip for £1 including free p&p
Mini-MaFt has just worked out how to undo his buckle tho in the car seat... grr...

Some cars don't allow you to rotate the seatbelt buckle like that though and something else has to be done.
Mini GPS_fan has worked out how to get his arm out, but he's not managed to undo the buckle yet.
I wonder why the manufacturers don't put chest straps on child seats to stop kids getting there arms out, but I'm not sure how you could make the buckle child proof _________________ Andy

I remember Mrs 7&Y suggesting this to Mr 7&Y once - can't quite think why...
