First an apology, as I'm sure this has been covered before, but I can't find it.
I've just downloaded updates via Home 1.6, and then checked the 720 in Windows Explorer. There are 58 files CAnnnn.ov2 . Do these count towards the 100 maximum POI categories, and are they required files? Surely the new/amended POIs have been added to the relevant categories' ov2 files. Are am I completely misunderstanding the way it works? _________________ Anita

I think you will lose access from some PoIs as the mapshare ones accumulate They do form part of the 100. I believe that TT have conceded that it's a "bug". _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

Thanks, sgould. That really is a bug, as it uses up more than half of the available POI categories. I hope TT are working on a solution.
It probably explains a problem I've been having tonight. After reading a thread about the limited number of Favourites I added a new POI category to put them in instead. When I tried to add POIs to the new category it didn't show, but it appears when I browse the TT in Home and Explorer.
I'll have to try deleting one of the categories I don't use much and see if my new one is then accessible. _________________ Anita

The alternative is to disable the POI updates that are supplied via TomTom Home, this reduces the number of ov2 files that "grow" on the device, the map data ones do still clock up but only a few whereas the POI Updates can consume 50 to 60 ov2 files in one hit!
Until TomTom speed up the process of vetting/ adding the submitted POI to the downloads I have decided not to use this option on a couple of my units because of the unpredictable behaviour it results in messing up custom POI files. A real shame as Map Share is a great idea, sadly let down by poor implementation, oh and the fact it needs the TT Home package to function is a very big black mark in my opinion. - Mike |

Is it OK to delete these files? If so, presumably there's no way of telling which updates are POI and which are map. If map updates are deleted do you think the'll be reapplied next time I connect to Home?
I counted up the ov2 files, and I had 116. The 58 update files and the 37 Speed Zoned pgpsw files come to 95 already, so I've removed all but 4 of my custom POIs. As all of the CAnnnn files have yesterday's date I assume they are overwritten rather than added to. When I enter Navigate to - POI I have 98 categories to select from, and taking away the custom ones leaves 57 TT ones so, if the map and POI update files are overwritten each time, all of them have been updated, so hopefully they won't increase further!
I'll watch the updates before deleteing anything else. _________________ Anita

What I've learnt so far...
The CAxxxx.ov2 files are INCOMING updates to the built-in POI categories. One for each of their categories. They do indeed overwrite earlier versions.
The PAxxxx.ov2 files are OUTGOING updates to POIs (and possibly Map corrections) that you have made.
So if you subscribe to updates to ALL their categories you lose upto 58 POI 'slots'.
I have now deleted all the CAxxxx files and started again, having unticked most of the updates (like Mountain Passes, the ludicrous 'shops', etc.
Incoming corrections for the actual map are dealt with differently. There is a post somewhere on one of the forums where someone logged what files were added/changed but I've mislaid it for the moment. |

Thanks for that info, Andy. Very helpful!
I'll delete the files and only download updates to the TT categories I'm likely to use. _________________ Anita
