Hey there guys. I have a few newbie questions to ask. Basically whilst on holiday in Florida we bought a TOMTOM XL with USA CANADA AND GUAM map included. $2 - £1 so bargain price. It worked a charm. GOt back put the USA map on pc, and got the UK map. Now what I was wondering is why my XL doesnt do the following:
-Optional warning when exceeding recorded speed limit
It warms me of cameras and says "Warning gatso ahead, Speed limit 30mph" etc but it does not SPEAK to me say if we are going 35/30mph zone. Though it may display 35/30mph..
ALSO
-Full UK Postcode search
I go to postcode, type in for example N17 0UR which Is Garman Road, Tottenham, London. However when I enter N17 0UR i have to click on "N17 Tottenham" and find Garman road by pressing G... or GAR etc. I thought "full postcode search" meant that I type in N17 0UR and it would find the road without asking me and all I had to do was put in a number E.g. 15
Like googlemaps or multimap... you type in N17 0UR it knows straight away its Garman road as all roads have diff. postcode...so why doesn't TOmTom do this?
I look forward to your replies
Thnx |

I take it you have the speed zoned camera database from here, and the speed zoned voice warnings from here. The Optional warning when exceeding recorded speed limit is part of the map data, and nothing to do with this site, so you won't get a voice warning, as TomTom haven't decided to give us one. The new software version 7.xx, gives a beep when you go over the limit. _________________ Audi A3 Sline sat nav |

Post Code - do NOT try to enter a space, type as N170UR.
On my GO720, the overspeed warning sound is configurable using any of several beeps, bleeps etc - I use a bugle call for better hearing. _________________ Dennis

Before we go too far, we really need the answer to Tim's question.
If the map was bought from TomTom, it should have come with the correct postcode file. If not... unlikely.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't know of any version of the ONE with text to speech, so that's red herring, and the speech must be coming from the PGPSW (or another) database and added .ogg file voice warnings. I wonder how they got on there?
There is no way with existing software to trigger a spoken warning (either pre-recorded or text-to-speech), when going overspeed. For bleeps you need v7 software and maps which have the speed date included. |

You are wrong. As Mike indicated, TomTom market a TTS version of the ONE XL in North America. _________________ Tim |

Thanks for the correction Tim, I'll try to remember that!
The actual words spoken sound familiar, though! |

just a thought, but when you input the postcde you should not leave a space but type in N170UR.
give that a try and it should work.

It would appear that you don't have the full postcodes present on the device. If you did, you wouldn't even be able to put a space in between the first and second parts of the postcode; it would simply be ignored. 0UG, 0UR and 0UT all bring up Garman Road on a device with the proper postcode files. Which leads me back to my original question; What UK map did you get and where from? _________________ Tim |
