I came across this when looking on Youtube. It would seem that at sometime ViaMichelin was showing off the 3D monuments feature but there has never been any mention of it being an upcoming feature.
What is so interesting is it appears to be based on the version 6 software not the upcoming version 7. Anyone know what the purpose of this video was?

Looks like some kind of test, just wonder if it will ever see the light of day. Not that I think it's really important in a GPS as buildings change more often than the roads.
Maybe that's why they only tested monuments? After all they should stay the same most of the time.
Would be nice as an option, but not sure if I would ever use it when navigating. |

the best part of the 3d data is the topographical bit. i.e. if there's a hill in front, you see the hill - if you're going down a hill you see that. it gives a much better idea to match the display to your actual surroundings in terms of how far exactly the next turn is.

Oh that does sound fat more useful than buildings on the map. I'm sure they would just slow the display down. |

I remember a very long debate about this on the forum before, I forget when. Must look it up! When we first saw this there were quite a few opinions expressed about this tech.
Good or bad, hmmm? _________________ Dom
