|

Hi all,
I have written a small app for my PDA, cunningly titled GPS Speedo.
For a little fun I've added some timing stats 0-60, 0-100 and 1/4 Mile.
I use GPSGate to test the application on the PDA, this works fine and I get 0-60 times that are measured in tenths of a second.. i.e 6.3.
When I use my Ever More BT-R920 receiver, I only get who seconds.. ie 6.0.
Now this is using the same code just different data imputs. Is there any reason that this would happen? Do GPS units only every output the $GPRMC message every second on the dot?
Cheers,
Paul. |

They only output the data every second, hence the reason you can't use them for timing acceleration times. Also the same reason when using it to show your true speed, you must be travelling at a constant speed on the level for it to give an accurate speed. _________________ Graham.

Some GPS receivers are set to output just the Hrs. Min. Sec and they default the millisecond value to 000 for ease. On others you may find it gives out the value (which changes every 998mS) so the value isn't quite one second but is very close.
There are some additional units on sale that offer more than 1 output per second, I have seen 5 per second civil units, however they are basically guessing at four of the outputs - it still uses the once per second for the true data - Mike |

Cheers for the reply, it must be the erratic replay of GPSGATE that allows the tenths to be recorded..

| You might want to Google that name! I think you'll find it is already in use! _________________ Jock

Oh no.. I might sue..
Only kidding, as I have no plans to sell or distribute this apart from a small select group of people, I cannot see it being an issue.
Failing that I might call it Brian. |
